Help BC Builders Deliver Step Code & Net Zero Homes. Build a Long-Term Career in Building Science
Capital Home Energy
is a BC-based Energy Design firm and Licensed Service Organization with Registered Energy Advisors through Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). We support builders across BC with EnerGuide Ratings, BC Energy Step Code compliance, blower door testing, Net Zero homes, and high-performance home consulting, helping create homes that are durable, comfortable, and energy efficient.
We are hiring a trusted
Energy Advisor
for our Vancouver Island division, with a strong preference for candidates already located in Comox Valley/Campbell River (and surrounding areas). You'll split time between computer-based energy modeling and field work on active job sites and occupied homes.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Perform energy modeling for new and existing homes (EnerGuide / Step Code support)
- Conduct pre-drywall and final blower door testing (airtightness testing)
- Complete existing home energy evaluations/audits and prepare time-sensitive reports
- Read drawings, interpret assemblies, and help teams solve Step Code challenges
- Build strong working relationships with builders, homeowners, designers, and engineers
- Work independently day-to-day while leaning on a strong technical team for support
Qualifications
- Currently living on Vancouver Island (local, stable, not "planning to relocate")
- Valid BC driver's license + reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed; company vehicle may be available later)
- Minimum 1 year of construction experience (hands-on/site exposure)
- Strong English communication skills (you're client-facing)
- Legally eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident)
- Comfortable with technology and willing to learn industry tools
- Passed both NRCan exams (Foundation Level and Energy Advisor)
- Currently a Registered Energy Advisor in good standing with NRCan
- Familiar with BC Building Code/BC Energy Step Code
- Experience reading architectural plans
- Experience with HOT2000 or other modeling software
- Familiarity with EnerGuide/CHBA Net Zero/Blower door testing for new construction
The Type Of Person Who Thrives Here
- Confident, professional, and personable (you build rapport fast)
- Independent and organized (you manage travel, priorities, and deadlines)
- Thick-skinned with a sense of humor (construction environments aren't delicate)
- Career-focused (we invest heavily in training and want people to stick around)
- Interested in energy efficiency and sustainable building (curious + practical)
Compensation & Benefits
- Full-time, permanent, on-site role with local travel
- Pay $60,000 to $70,000 CAD starting (higher for already-registered EAs)
- Performance bonus: up to 6% of salary annually
- Mileage reimbursement + cell phone allowance
- Extended health benefits
- Company laptop + required testing equipment/tools
- Vacation: 2 weeks to start + paid Christmas holiday shutdown
- Paid training + ongoing professional development
Why Capital Home Energy
- We're not builders, we're trusted advisors. You'll help raise the bar for residential performance across BC.
- Training + long-term growth. We invest in your development toward continuing education, field skills, and modeling expertise.
- Professional, respected team. We're known for doing great work, communicating clearly, and showing up professionally.
- Real autonomy with real support. You'll work independently in the field while backed by a strong technical team.
- Work that matters (without the drama). Practical sustainability: better homes, better comfort, better efficiency, done the right way.
We do not discriminate against: Religion, Gender, Gender Expression, Age, National Origin, Marital Status, Sexual Orientation, or
Vaccination Status
We are simply looking for the best person for the job.
