Scope of the Position:
The Datacomm Specialist will be the subject matter expert for data communications products and solutions across British Columbia. With strong technical knowledge of structured cabling, connectivity, networking infrastructure, and communications systems, this role will support sales teams, branches, and customers by ensuring the right products and solutions are specified, quoted, and delivered.
Key Responsibilities:
Product & Technical Expertise
- Serve as the go-to expert for Gescan's full portfolio of Datacomm products, including structured cabling, fiber optics, copper connectivity, racks & enclosures, patch panels, power distribution, and active networking devices.
- Provide detailed product selection support, solution design recommendations, and technical specifications to customers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Deliver technical product training for branch staff, outside sales representatives, and customers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of manufacturer offerings, industry standards (BICSI, ANSI/TIA, ISO/IEC), and emerging technologies such as PoE, Wi-Fi 6, IoT infrastructure, and data center connectivity.
Customer & Sales Support
- Support Outside Sales Representatives in customer meetings by providing technical insights and presenting tailored Datacomm solutions.
- Providing time to time sales report and business reviews to Business Unit Manager and responsible for achieving KPI's and targets set by Business Unit Manager.
- Assist with project quotations, bill of materials creation, and product substitutions.
- Engage with consultants, engineers, and contractors to ensure Gescan products are specified in new builds and retrofit projects.
- Participate in vendor-led customer events, product demos, and technology roadshows.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner closely with vendors to align on product strategies, promotions, and new technology introductions.
- Share feedback with the Business Unit Manager on customer requirements, product gaps, and competitive offerings.
- Support branches in achieving Datacomm sales targets by identifying growth opportunities and ensuring staff are equipped with product knowledge.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3–5 years of experience in the Datacomm, structured cabling, or low-voltage industry (distribution, manufacturing, or contracting experience preferred).
- Strong product knowledge in: Copper & fiber cabling systems, Connectors, patch panels, and termination hardware, Racks, cabinets, and cable management, Power (UPS's ,PDU's) and cooling solutions for communication systems, active equipment and network infrastructure basics
- Familiarity with BICSI practices and industry standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate technical information into practical solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in quotes, specifications, and product selection.
- Self-starter with a passion for technology and customer engagement.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within BC.
