Job Description

Report to:

The Housing Stability Worker will be an employee of Northwest London Resource Centre (NWLRC). Day-to-Day supervision/consultation will be provided by the Coordinator of System. Supervision will be provided in the form of formal supervision meetings as well as informal support as requested by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Social Service Worker Diploma, Social Work Degree, related fields of expertise or extensive experience of over 3 years actively supporting low-income residents.

Hours:

Position is a full-time position and will run from Monday to Friday. Some evenings when required.

Hours per Week:

37.5 hrs./week

Wages:

$30 per hour with benefits after 3-month probation period.

Position overview:

The Employment and Housing Stability Worker supports asylum claimants in securing and maintaining safe, affordable, and sustainable housing while also strengthening their employment readiness and economic stability. Working in coordination with the homelessness prevention network, the coordinated access system, and employment-focused community partners, this role includes skill-building, housing navigation, landlord engagement, tenancy support, and employment readiness programming. The goal is to ensure a smooth transition from temporary to permanent housing and improved pathways to employment and self-sufficiency.

Client Support

❑ Provide services in a welcoming and respectful environment that fosters trust, dignity, and inclusion.

❑ Conduct comprehensive housing and employment needs assessments and develop individualized stability plans.

❑ Support clients in searching for and securing permanent housing, including assistance with applications, viewings, and lease signings.

❑ Build relationships with landlords and housing providers to increase access to available units.

❑ Educate clients on tenant rights and responsibilities, household budgeting, and maintaining housing stability.

❑ Coordinate with community partners to arrange furniture, moving support, employment referrals, and settlement services.

❑ Track housing and employment outcomes and maintain detailed case notes for reporting to the City of London and program partners.

❑ Collaborate with Case Management and Support Services staff to ensure wraparound support.

❑ Coordinate with external agencies, shelters, employment programs, and community organizations to strengthen the referral network.

❑ Participate in case conferencing and system-level discussions to ensure coordinated service delivery.

❑ Provide information and guidance to NWLRC staff about emerging settlement and case management issues impacting asylum claimants.

❑ Collect and review client feedback and program evaluations to support continuous improvement.

Employment and Skills Development Support

❑ Assist clients in identifying employment goals and understanding labour market expectations.

❑ Provide one-on-one employment support, including:


• Resume and cover letter development


• Job search strategies


• Online job application guidance


• Interview preparation and mock interviews

❑ Develop and facilitate workshops related to employment readiness (e.g., résumé writing, workplace culture, communication, conflict resolution).

❑ Connect clients with appropriate employment programs, training opportunities, and community skill-building initiatives.

❑ Support clients in accessing certifications required for entry-level jobs.

❑ Encourage and support participation in volunteer, pre-employment, and skills development opportunities that build confidence and employability.

❑ Work with local employers to identify entry-level opportunities and advocate for client hiring where appropriate.

Administration and Reporting

❑ Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and outcome data using approved databases and tracking systems (e.g., HIFIS).

❑ Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for program evaluation and funder reporting.

❑ Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and organizational activities.

❑ Ensure confidential handling of client information.

❑ Operate in accordance with the policies, procedures, and protocols of SLNRC/NWLRC.

❑ Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of System.

Qualifications (Additional)

 Strong understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive practice.

 Familiarity with asylum and refugee claimant processes in Canada.

 Proven ability to advocate effectively and navigate complex service systems.

 Excellent communication, organizational, and crisis intervention skills.

 Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.

 Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.

 Capacity to build relationships with community members and professionals.

 Proven ability to work with diverse and ethnic/cultural backgrounds.

 Motivated, self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

 Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and some knowledge of database entry.

 Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

 Clearance through a Vulnerable Populations Police Screening Process.

 Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

 Responsible, trustworthy, approachable, and friendly.
