Barefoot Law is a busy firm located in Owen Sound looking to hire an Associate Lawyer. We defend Criminal Code charges and prosecute CDSA charges in Owen Sound and Walkerton. We have 4 lawyers, 4 paralegals and a law clerk on our team. We value teamwork, mentorship, and work-life balance in our firm.

What we are looking for in a candidate

  • Some criminal law experience, or at least some litigation experience with a demonstrated interest in criminal law
  • Confident, organized, and keen
  • Expectation that you will be able to run criminal files independently with minimal supervision within 6 months of starting

Job Specs

  • Full-time, in person, with the eventual possibility of working from home on occasion
  • Must be willing to re-locate to Grey-Bruce
  • Must drive and have access to a vehicle – free parking at office
  • 3-4 month probationary period required, in order to be approved by the PPSC [Security Screening and testing]
  • Working with 2 senior lawyers and 2 junior lawyers who will provide mentorship
  • Working among a great team where work-life balance is valued and encouraged

Compensation:

  • The salary for this position will be commensurate with the applicant's skills and experience and ranges from $65,000-$80,000 plus benefits, insurance fees, and Law Society dues. Lawyers are eligible for annual salary review and the potential for bonuses.
  • The firm pays for membership fees for local bar associations (Grey County Law Association, Bruce County Law Association, CLA) as well as tickets for social events that are law-related or involve networking
  • The firm compensates lawyers a portion of annual CPD as required by LSO.
