SBM is currently seeking a Design Intern to work with our engineering staff in the Electrical division of our London office for 16 months starting in May 2026. The Electrical Engineering Intern will assist with the design, analysis, evaluation, and implementation of electrical systems for a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional building projects, including power distribution, photometrics, lighting systems design, building controls, emergency power, fire alarm, and data communication systems. Some field inspection may also be required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with electrical engineering
  • Preparation of electrical engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design requirements
  • Coordinate with other team members on various projects at the same time to achieve project milestones
  • Accept technical guidance from designers, engineers, and senior staff
  • Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
  • Coordinate Electrical aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Completed three years towards a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent, and enrolled to complete the Degree.
  • Eligible for a 16-month co-op / internship registered through your post-secondary school.
  • A good understanding of building system design is considered an asset
  • Experience in power system design and/or construction considered an asset
  • Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines, the Ontario Building Code, and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit considered an asset
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Capable of working on and/or managing several projects at the same time
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel within Ontario, primarily London and surrounding area.
