$45,000 to $52,000 annually, depending on experience
Funding Note:
This position is intended for a youth participant who meets federal Youth Employment Program eligibility (under 30, post-secondary graduate, legally entitled to work in Canada, not in receipt of EI).
About the Role
Sol Invictus provides residential energy consulting, modeling, and code compliance services across Western Canada. We are hiring a junior research and technical development assistant to support ongoing product development, data initiatives, and industry engagement.
This role focuses on research, stakeholder interviews, organizing technical information, and helping develop early stage product requirements. With the right candidate, the position can evolve into a more technical building-science or energy-modeling role over time.
Work is remote with a flexible schedule. Some travel within Alberta is required for meetings, interviews, and workshops.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct research on energy codes, residential construction practices, energy efficiency measures, and market trends.
• Gather, organize, and structure technical datasets for internal use.
• Participate in interviews and user research sessions with builders, energy advisors, and municipal staff.
• Identify user needs, gaps, and opportunities to support future product development.
• Prepare research summaries, technical briefs, and internal documentation.
• Support coordination tasks, meeting notes, and follow-ups with partners and stakeholders.
• Work independently on assigned research and development tasks with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
• Post-secondary graduate in building science, architectural technology, engineering, environmental studies, or a related field.
• Strong interest in energy efficiency, residential construction, and building science.
• Excellent research and synthesis skills.
• Strong soft skills: communication, professionalism, adaptability, curiosity, and attention to detail.
• Comfortable interviewing industry professionals and gathering user feedback.
• Able to work independently in a remote environment with a flexible schedule.
• Valid driver's licence and ability to travel within Alberta.
• Must meet Youth Employment Program eligibility (under 30, Canadian citizen or PR, not receiving EI).
Assets
• Familiarity with HOT2000 or energy modeling concepts.
• Experience organizing datasets or working with technical information.
• Comfort engaging with builders, inspectors, or construction industry stakeholders.
