About the role

We're looking for a Specialist, Commercial Lines to join our growing team

What you'll do here:

  • Through effective use of critical thinking skills, generate and present new ideas and solutions to challenges.

  • Contribute to the development of strategies and corporate guidelines to effectively control insurance risks and to positively impact profitability.

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to underwriters to ensure a consistent application of corporate guidelines while building and maintaining productive relationships.

  • Collaborate with Underwriters seeking corporate consultation on files that may be large or complex, contain new or unusual exposures, or require a creative solution.

  • Facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge, development of critical thinking skills and guidance towards a solution oriented underwriting approach.

  • Participate in the development and delivery of underwriting training programs to regional staff and to brokers.

  • Contribute to the overall planning, design and delivery of current and new products.

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in Underwriting.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial auto insurance wording, products, appetite and philosophies, along with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures.

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to consider different perspectives and approaches.

  • Ability to identify and recommend learning and training opportunities and propose solutions and action plans.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong ability to collaborate, promote partnerships and build effective work relationships.

  • Self-driven and able to work effectively under pressure.

  • Can adapt to changes in the workplace positively.

  • Good understanding of Intact underwriting systems and office software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Working towards Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses is an asset.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

  • University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
