Lumenus Community Services is hiring one full-time regular Psychotherapist Service Coordinator to join our Early Years portfolio on the Community Based Mental Health team. Services can be delivered at agency locations, in alternate community settings, in schools, in child care settings, and in client homes. This position include working with children up to 12 years and youth who experience mental health and/or developmental challenges and their families, childcare staff and /or school staff. The Psychotherapist, Service Coordinator also assists parents/caregivers in achieving their self-identified goals to facilitate the child and youth optimal development and/or functioning. This position will execute specific interventions, as outlined on the individualized single plan of care. This position is designated to provide the controlled act of psychotherapy, and it includes consultation, ongoing assessment, treatment and review, single plan of care oversight and development. Services can be extended to all quadrants within Toronto as needed. Evenings are required and some weekends will be needed, and flexibility is required with work hours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitating walk-in sessions and coordinating and delivering brief counselling single session;
- Organizing and facilitating evidence based, evidence informed treatment groups to children and parents/caregivers;
- Delivering individualized services to families (including in the home) – skill-based services and didactic child/parent interaction support;
- Supporting families on issues like: Infant stimulation, child development, behaviour management, transitions, routines, speech and language stimulation, play and creative activities, adaptive functioning;
- Delivery of individual, family and group psychotherapy;
- Administer intake tools, Assessment and Screening Tools;
- Formulation of child and caregiver treatment plans;
- Complete child and family assessments;
- Service Coordination, including facilitating internal and external referrals;
- Organizing and delivery of Triple P seminars and other parenting education services;
- Promoting linkage to community resources;
- Supporting other programs and services where there is skill and knowledge overlap on an as needed basis;
- Collaborating with child care programs and schools in the delivery of support services to children;
- Facilitating referrals and engaging in advocacy.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- A Master's Degree in a discipline that is permitted to practice as a psychotherapist in Ontario;
- Membership in good standing within the appropriate related professional regulatory body;
- Minimum of 3 years working in a therapeutic milieu on a multi-disciplinary team with direct responsibility for client care, service coordination and family engagement;
- Minimum 2 years of experience working collaboratively with school boards and childcare program staff in a consultative role;
- Experience working with very young children with complex enhanced learning needs (social-emotional adjustment, developmental) and their families/caregivers;
- Ability to demonstrate and work through a lens of sensitivity to diversity-related to race, religion, culture, cognitive functioning, poverty, sexual orientation and gender identity;
- Knowledge of community services and resources are essential
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Developed competencies in the areas of identification, planning and implementation of effective intervention strategies for children with moderate to severe enhanced learning needs including ASD, ADHD, social/emotional challenges, trauma, academic, speech and language concerns etc.;
Good clinical judgement and understanding of practice and competencies;
Ability to consult with families and community partners about a child's needs and strategies to address them effectively;
Good planning, organizing and problem solving skills;
Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams both within the agency and the community;
Knowledge of early childhood development and current effective intervention strategies;
Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017;
Working knowledge of Microsoft windows, Microsoft word, Internet;
Keen observational skills;
Flexibility in service delivery to a wide variety of settings and families.
In the execution of all activities, registered psychotherapists and social workers must be able to:
Have a conversation about the risks and benefits, and expected outcomes of treatment and ensure informed consent;
Collaboratively develop a plan for therapy;
Ensure each therapy session has a clear beginning and end;
Continuously evaluate the outcome of treatment goals;
Demonstrate appropriate use of boundaries to create safe and confidential environments.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process;
- Flexibility and ability to travel to work in different office locations, schools, home, community as needed;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings;
- Fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, French, or Vietnamese is an asset.
