Purpose:
The Community Supports and Services Advisor role is responsible for supporting students, impacted by critical incidents, facing personal crises or multiple complex issues, to maximize student engagement and success. The role facilitates resolution of student conduct inquiries, provides care and support to students, staff, and faculty specific to the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. negotiated resolution, adjudicative processes, critical incidents, and respondent services under the University's sexual violence policy.The role reports to the Manager, Office of Student Community Relations, and resolves complaints related to inappropriate student behaviour whether informally or through formal disciplinary processes. The role advocates for students to secure academic considerations, financial assistance, stopouts/leaves, emergency housing and provides education and training on students' rights and responsibilities to students, faculty, and staff. The role is part of the critical response team and provides support to students in acute crisis or exhibiting concerning behaviours as identified and provides respondent services in relation to the university's sexual violence policyThe role creates a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, that embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Equity Studies or Education, Critical Disabilities Studies, Public Health, or Education).
- Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
- Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the University prior to commencement of employment. Note: Verification of degree(s)/license(s)/credential(s) required.
Experience:
- 4 years related experience.
- Progressive experience in student conduct case management coordinating services, advising, and dealing with multiple complex student issues, student conduct cases, critical incident, crisis management and gender-based violence, alternative dispute resolution required.
- Experience supporting community members on issues related to conflict, mental health, and behavioural concerns, from an intersectional lens.
- Experience coordinating safety planning and/or risk assessments with those who have experienced violence.

Knowledge
- Understanding of administrative law principles.
- Knowledge of intersectionality and anti-oppression frameworks.
- Knowledge of equity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and University health and safety procedures as they apply to the workplace and responsibilities as an employee.Skills

- Proficiency in relevant software, such as Scheduling and, Communication tools, SIS modules, data reporting, and management systems.

- Able to effectively manage conflicting demands and changing circumstances and to appropriately adapt.
Additional Notes:
- Normal office work environment.
On occasion, may be required to respond outside of normal working hours in the event of a critical incident situation.
Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
