Lumenus Community Services is currently seeking a part-time, skilled and experienced Psychotherapist, Service Coordinator

at our Central Toronto Youth Wellness Hub Ontario (YWHO).

The main purpose of this position is to provide therapeutic supports youth in the community to youth, aged 12-25 years old, in the community that are evidence-based, reflective of the diverse needs of clients and their families, and are youth-centered and developmentally appropriate. This position addresses a range of mental health issues, including emotional, behavioral and/or psychiatric symptoms that may be impacting one's functioning at home, school, socially or in the community, as well as situational challenges including family conflict, bullying, trauma, substance use, struggles with psychiatric diagnoses, etc. Intervention strategies are determined following a thorough intake and assessment. This position provides ongoing individual, family, and group counselling in the community as well as counselling in our walk-in programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work within a multidisciplinary framework and treatment team approach to provide developmentally appropriate treatment services to children, youth and young adults from 14 to 25yrs old.
• Provide direct clinical service to clients while ensuring all services are based on holistic practice and an integration of family focus, wellness, attachment theory and trauma-informed principles.
• Work in collaboration with youth, family members, and other service providers to identify a youth's needs and goals
• Provide evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive individual, group, and family counselling
• Establish therapeutic and trusting relationships with clients, as well as collaborative relationships with service providers.
• Provide immediate support to clients in crisis including risk mitigation, safety planning and connections to crisis services. Document and review any risk factors that may be impacting the client.
• Refer clients for other assessments and connect to additional services as required.
• Participate in the development and implementation of assessments, goals and treatment plans for assigned clients and liaise with families, in coordination with the Service Team, as required.
• Participate in treatment planning, Service Reviews / Plans of Care, program planning and evaluation meetings and ensure communication of all pertinent client and program related information and events to the Service Team.
• Knowledge of approaches that promote health equity, including anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice, 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion, community engagement, cultural safety, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and human rights and accessibility frameworks.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• Master's level education in a relevant clinical field.
• Registered member in good standing with a regulatory body (e.g. OCSWSSW, CRPO Qualifying).
• 2 years of related professional experience or a combination of education and experience that will meet the needs of the position.

• Understanding of gender-affirming health care with trans and non-binary folks
• Experience working with youth struggling with depression, anxiety, strained social relationships eating disorders, self-injurious behavior, trauma, psychiatric diagnoses, difficult family dynamics, learning disabilities etc.

• Formal training and demonstrated knowledge in evidence-based (e.g., solution focused brief therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy) or evidence generating treatment models.

• Experience with/lived experience of oppression, racism, homophobia, transphobia and/or ableism and/or personal connection to queer or trans communities of color, including newcomer and disability communities.

• Experience working with youth who have intersecting identities and identify on the gender diversity and/or sexual diversity spectrum.

• Certification in First Aid and Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI).

• Strong skills in counselling, psychoeducation, clinical assessment, case management, and treatment are essential.

• Thorough knowledge of the principle techniques and methods of individual/family therapy and treatment techniques with ability to apply them as needed

• Proven group facilitation skills, preferably utilizing Evidence Based Practices

• Proven assessment and advocacy skills

• Suicide risk assessment and intervention skills

• Proven knowledge and understanding of outreach strategies.

• Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with other staff; ability to connect and build rapport with adolescents

• Ability to work with and integrate knowledge from other professional staff, i.e. psychologists, psychiatrists, into the overall treatment plan

• Ability to formulate psychosocial assessments; knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures utilized by related disciplines

• Sound knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development

• Knowledge and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the 2SLGBTQ+ youth community.

• Understanding of gender-affirming health care with trans and non-binary folks.

• Previous experience in community development an asset.

• Knowledge and skill in delivering group programs and workshops.

• Experience in youth engagement and harm reduction practices.

• Demonstrated sound judgement related to the development of collaborative approaches working with youth and their families; including high risk circumstances and safety planning

• Ability to demonstrate and work through a lens of sensitivity to diversity related to race, religion, culture, cognitive functioning, poverty, sexual orientation and gender identity, etc.

• Ability to identify clinical learning needs and seek consultation and support through supervision

• Advanced communication & interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, exercising professional judgement in conflictual and stressful situations

• Well-developed writing skills with a strong record in completing documentation properly and in a timely manner

• Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process;

• Flexibility and ability to travel to work in different office locations, schools, home, community as needed;

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings.
