Job Overview
The Cafe Kitchen Lead plays a key role in supporting the daily operations in our cozy neighborhood Owl Cafe & Meeting Place. This position is hands-on and ideal for someone who enjoys preparing delicious, homemade food while keeping the kitchen organized and efficient. The Kitchen Lead is responsible for cooking and food preparation, ordering and shopping for ingredients, assist in menu planning and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
This roles supports the overall success of the cafe and ensures it is a welcoming experience our guests expect. The Kitchen Lead works closely with cafe team to create a smooth, friendly, and enjoyable environment for staff and customers.
Duties
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and baked items according to cafe standards.
- Maintain high levels of food safety and sanitation practices in compliance with health regulations.
- Ensure food is prepared on-time and monitor food presentation and portion control to ensure consistency and quality.
- Manage inventory, including shopping, ordering supplies and minimizing waste.
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service during busy periods.
- Work collaboratively with the cafe team and co-op members to ensure smooth service.
- Handle customer inquiries and feedback professionally to enhance guest satisfaction.
- Assist in menu planning and development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and trends.
- Assist in receiving, storing and rotating kitchen supplies.
- Bring creativity and passion to a space that values community and comfort.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, creativity, and professional growth.
Qualifications
- 1- 2 years of proven experience in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen management within the restaurant industry.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on creating memorable experiences.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food handling.
- Previous experience in hospitality or barista roles is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and customers.
- Organized, dependable and able to work independently.
- Positive attitude and team-oriented.
- Meets physical requirements of the job
- Flexible to changing job demands.
- A passion for food and commitment to continuous improvement within the kitchen.
- Respects the rights and privacy of co-op members.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
