Your opportunity:
The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences is an academic unit that includes mathematics, computer science and statistics. We can only realize our mission with the dedication and excellence of engaged staff and faculty.
As an Academic Advisor and Undergraduate Program Administrator, you will contribute to the academic success of our students, the smooth running of our courses and programs, and act as a vital resource to instructors on academic matters. You will advise students on academic and personal matters impacting their academic success. The incumbent assists students with a wide range of academic issues and concerns, including interpretation of University policies and procedures, selecting courses and programs, meeting degree requirements, managing personal or health issues which impact their academic progress, and planning pathways for their future.
In addition, the incumbent provides administrative support for academic and curriculum matters to ensure smooth course and program delivery and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success, and an understanding of an individual's background
- Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
- Reviewing and approving changes to program requirements for exceptional cases
- Providing consultation and advice on the application of University policies and procedures
- Analyzing statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning
- Delivering student recruitment presentations
- Acting as the first point of contact for program-related enquiries
- Promoting programs at recruitment events
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum (4) four years related advising experience in a similar academic role required
- Experience providing advice to students in an academic environment
- Experience advising students on program and/or course requirements
- Experience with timetabling, curriculum and program coordination
- Experience applying and interpreting related academic policies and procedures
- Experience in the administration of University policies and procedures with emphasis on undergraduate program academic guidelines, procedures and policies. Ability to exercise good judgement, especially in the interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
- High level of proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), Zoom, ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated ability to interact with faculty, students and professional colleagues in a tactful, professional and diplomatic manner. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organization, and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with Course Information System (CIS), Student Advising Service (SAS) and PowerBI an asset
