ITA309H5S Mafia Movies

Course description: (Offered in English) A study of organized crime and crime bosses and their representation onscreen, in American gangster films and in Italian movies about the mafia. Films analyzed include Donnie Brasco, The Godfather Trilogy, Gomorrah, Goodfellas, The Mafia Only Kills in Summer, Placido Rizzotto.

Number of positions: 1-2
Course Schedule: Thursdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Please see  [NOTE: The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be online synchronous. However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.]
Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026
Salary: $54.27/hour
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:
Demonstrated ability in the specific area of the course (Italian cinema, Italian, history, Italian cultural studies, diaspora studies, organized crime, etc.) is required.
(Near-)native written & spoken Italian is required.

Preferred qualifications: 
Graduate-level research in Italian studies or cinema studies is preferred.
Experience in this course or a similar course is preferred.

Description of duties: Grading of assignments and tests; attending lectures. Other responsibilities are as assigned by the instructor and may include: course orientation, weekly preparation, and weekly meetings with the instructor. Note: The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be online sychronous. However, if this changes for any reason, as much advance notice as practicable will be given.
