Litigation Law Clerk/Legal Assistant

A renowned law firm is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Litigation Law Clerk / Legal Assistant to support its litigation team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Ontario civil procedure, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex litigation files from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize litigation files, both electronic and physical.
  • Track court deadlines, hearings, and manage bring-forward systems.
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, motion records, and correspondence.
  • Prepare affidavits of documents, trial briefs, and exhibits for hearings.
  • Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and procedures.
  • File and serve documents through courts, tribunals, and online portals (Justice Services, Case Center).
  • Communicate with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel.
  • Schedule meetings, mediations, and court appearances.
  • Handle file openings, closings, billing, and general administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • Law Clerk diploma or certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in litigation law.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, Construction Act, and Liens.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe Pro, GhostPractice, ACL, and Philips SpeechLive.
  • Experience with Superior Court, Small Claims Court, Federal Court, Tribunals, and related filing systems.
  • Excellent communication, research, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
