Video Editor / Instructor (Part-Time, Contract)
Renert School, located in Royal Oak NW Calgary, is one of Calgary's leading private schools, known for academic excellence and a forward-thinking approach to education. We have a thriving Creative Arts program and regularly produce theatrical performances, concerts, and community events that are captured on video. We are also expanding our communications department and require expertise in video production.
We are seeking a Video Editor / Instructor to oversee the school's video production needs and to train students in the professional capture and editing of live performances and school life.
This is a hybrid role that combines hands-on video editing, live event capture, and instructional mentorship. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping how Renert documents and shares its creative and academic life.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit the school's existing backlog of unedited footage from live productions and events
- Instruct students in grades 7–12 in the use of video equipment to capture live shows and events around the school
- Direct and lead a team of students responsible for filming theatrical and other live events
- Support the Renert TV program in creating polished video presentations that showcase school life to the broader community
About the Role
Renert School has a strong commitment to creative and performing arts. We want students to learn how to document their work at a professional standard, both in live capture and in post-production.
The successful candidate will be a videography and live-capture enthusiast with substantial experience editing video efficiently and thoughtfully. You should be comfortable filming live theatrical and performance-based events, where preparation, timing, and calm judgment are essential.
Equally important, this role is instructional. You will mentor students in grades 7–12, teaching them how to operate equipment responsibly, work effectively as part of a production team, and develop strong professional habits in video production.
We are looking for someone who brings creative energy, fresh ideas, and strong leadership, and who enjoys building something meaningful with students over time.
Qualifications & Qualities
- Extensive experience in video editing and post-production
- Experience capturing live theatrical, musical, or performance-based events
- Strong visual judgment, pacing, and storytelling skills
- Efficiency and discipline when working with large volumes of footage
- Ability to teach technical skills clearly and patiently to students with varying experience
- Confidence leading student teams in live, time-sensitive settings
- Creativity, initiative, and a steady flow of ideas for video production
- A genuine interest in mentoring students and supporting their creative development
Position Details & Compensation
- Part-time, contract position
- Paid hourly
- $40/hour for instruction
- $25/hour for editing and video capture
- Instruction is during the school day: approximately 3–6 hours per week
- Video editing may be completed on campus or remotely, depending on workflow
- Must be available for school events requiring video capture, including evenings and weekends (scheduled in advance)
Initially, the role will involve editing a large backlog of existing footage (dozens of hours of work). Once established, the position will settle into a regular rhythm of teaching, capturing, and editing, averaging approximately 10 hours per week.
This is a dream contract for a creative and enthusiastic videographer. There is meaningful potential for this role to grow over time, depending on the additional skills and initiative you bring.
