Job purpose
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for assigned tenders. This role involves reviewing and interpreting bid specifications and drawings, developing conceptual budgets, and producing design-build and hard-bid estimates, including unit pricing, detailed quantity takeoffs, and subtrade pricing. The Senior Estimator plays a key role in supporting informed bid decisions and contributing to the company's overall estimating strategy and project success.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced estimator with a strong background in structural steel or construction. However, we are also open to candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn, grow, and build a long-term career with our team.
The ideal candidate will have:
· CET, P.Eng. or E.I.T.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in structural steel estimating or 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
· Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel.
· Ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprints, specifications, schedules, and cost reports.
· A solid understanding of the construction process and applicable building codes.
· Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence in both outbound and inbound calls.
· Strong written communication skills, including professional correspondence and documentation.
· A self-motivated mindset with strong time management and organizational skills.
· Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
· A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong negotiating skills with vendors, subtrades, and clients.

Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Estimator is responsible for:
· Reviewing and downloading all tender requests and coordinating with Senior Management to determine bid/no-bid decisions and responding to clients accordingly.
· Notifying applicable subtrades (e.g., joist supply, deck install) to ensure inclusion on bid lists.
· Scheduling and coordinating quote start-up and close-out meetings with the General Manager in alignment with tender schedules to allow sufficient management input.
· Reviewing project specifications and identifying scope deviations from company standards or industry norms.
· Preparing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates in accordance with company estimating procedures and systems.
· Obtaining pricing for tender materials and all special-order items for each bid.
· Consulting with department heads (drafting, shop, and field) to validate assumptions, allowances, and constructability.
· Preparing, executing, and submitting quote letters and bid forms.
· Completing required pre-qualifications and/or proposals as part of the tender process.
· Preparing and submitting tender RFIs to obtain required clarifications within specified timeframes.
· Understanding, contributing to, and supporting the continual improvement of the company's estimating systems and processes.
· Maintaining awareness of market trends, key vendors, competitor activity, and general contractor activity to support informed estimating and business decisions.
· Following up on all submitted quotes and maintaining the master quote log.
· Attending and contributing value during pre-award and award meetings with the General Manager.
· Setting up awarded projects for the project team and leading handoff meetings to ensure a clear transfer of scope, pricing, and assumptions.
· Supporting active projects by pricing change orders as requested by the Project Management team.
· Capture and apply lessons learned from previous projects to improve accuracy and outcomes on future bids.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $80,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
