The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia's (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Position title: Events Associate (AMS Events)Reports to: Assistant Manager, AMS EventsEmployee status: Part-time, hourly, temporaryHours: Up to 10 hours per week (with opportunity for more during event weeks)Compensation: $19.00 per hourLength of term: January 5, 2026 – April 30, 2026JOB DESCRIPTIONAttention all fun-loving UBC Vancouver students Do you have a passion for campus culture and event planning? As an Event Associate, you'll work closely with the Assistant Manager, AMS Events, to help plan, promote and execute engaging events that cater to the diverse interests of UBC students.If you are enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized, and committed to fostering meaningful connections among students, this opportunity is perfect for you. Join our team and be part of a collaborative community that values creativity, dedication, and active involvement in campus life.Duties and Responsibilities:Support in planning, developing, implementing, and executing a wide range of exciting events throughout the academic year.Contribute marketing strategies to effectively promote AMS Events and engage with our community.Interface directly with UBC students through in-person opportunities, engaging with them and promoting upcoming AMS events.Stay up to date with the current and ever-changing interests of UBC students and help bring relevant programming to life.Collaborate with student clubs and campus groups to create inclusive, representative, and memorable events.Build and maintain positive working relationships both within and outside the organization.Deliver top-notch customer service for UBC students and our partners.Contribute to fostering a responsive, respectful, and positive environment.Support with the success of AMS Block Party, our annual end-of-term concert (mandatory participation)Active participation in weekly planning meetings.Other duties as required.Qualifications and Experience:Must be currently enrolled as a UBC studentSome prior event planning experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of the current interests of post-secondary studentsFamiliar with UBC student life and campus cultureOutgoing, friendly, and adaptable to various environmentsCapable of working in a live music settingProven ability to meet deadlines and produce results within a fast-paced work environment.Strong knowledge of social media applicationsAble to work in-person at UBC Vancouver campus throughout work termFlexible schedule, open to working some weekdays between 9am-5pm, as well as occasional late evening shifts and longer hours for event implementationReliable and punctualAbility to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a team settingStrong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing circumstancesAble to follow directions and respond well to feedbackPhotography, videography and/or graphic design experience is an assetTo Apply:Please submit your resume and cover letter.Application Deadline: 11:59PM November 9, 2025At the AMS, we believe that a diverse workforce enriches our organization, and we value individual life experiences, knowledge and self-expression that different people bring.
