Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada SASCO CONTRACTORS Full time

About Us

Sasco Contractors Ltd. is an industry-leading electrical contractor serving the Lower Mainland, BC Interior, and Vancouver Island since 1985. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality work while fostering a culture that lives by The Sasco Way, centered on our values of Excellence | Teamwork | Diversity | Growth | Ambition | Balance.

As Sasco continues to grow, we're looking for a hands-on and driven HR Employee Engagement and Policy Development Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for an HR professional ready to take ownership of core HR functions, improve existing systems and processes, and play a key part in building the foundation for our next stage of growth.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you'll work closely with leadership, managers, and employees to deliver full-cycle HR support across the organization, with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and collaboration.

  • Onboarding & Orientation: Own the onboarding process from start to finish, coordinating with Payroll, Managers, and new hires to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Recruitment & Talent Acquisition: Manage job postings, screen resumes, and conduct phone screens; support hiring managers through the interview process.
  • HRIS & Systems Management: Act as our BambooHR administrator, optimizing workflows, reports, and automations to improve efficiency.
  • Policies & Compliance: Maintain and update HR policies and the employee handbook; ensure compliance with BC Employment Standards and union agreements.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Assist with compensation reviews, total rewards statements, and benefits administration.
  • Engagement & Culture: Support company events, recognition programs, and employee engagement surveys; turn feedback into action plans.
  • Offboarding: Coordinate and support employee departures to ensure a smooth, professional, and respectful process for both the employee and the team.
  • Strategic HR Initiatives: Partner with leadership on broader HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen company culture, systems, and processes.

Qualifications

  • At least 3+ years of experience in HR, ideally within construction, contracting, or a similar field-based environment.
  • Strong understanding of BC Employment Standards and experience working within unionized environments.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (BambooHR is an asset) and confidence in learning new systems and tools.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and independence - comfortable bringing forward ideas and improving existing processes.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills across all levels of the business.
  • Post-secondary education is required; studies in HR, Business, or a related field are an asset.

Why Choose Us

At Sasco, you'll join a team that values integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement. We take pride in delivering quality work while maintaining a down-to-earth, supportive culture where people genuinely enjoy what they do.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Extended health, dental, vision care, life insurance, and RRSP matching.
  • Generous Time Off: 15 vacation days to start, plus extra paid days for Boxing Day and Easter Monday.
  • Professional Growth: Support for continued education and training, with up to $1,000 per year for approved courses.
  • Connection & Culture: Regular social events, summer BBQs, team hikes, and an annual holiday celebration that brings everyone together.
  • Shared Values: Our core values aren't just words on a wall. They guide how we hire, recognize, and support one another every day.
  • Impact & Autonomy: As part of a growing HR function, you'll have the opportunity to make meaningful improvements, bring new ideas forward, and see your work directly shape the employee experience.
