Who We Are

The Strategic Systems and Innovation (SSI) Branch provides direction in information management and the use of technology (IM/IT) to support business strategies and enable strategic priorities. We serve both the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety and the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General. Our branch employs individuals who can fill a role within the increasingly dynamic nature of program delivery within the public sector.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a well-rounded professional to join our team in an 18-month term position as a Senior Data/Report Analyst. Working under the Manager of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics you will be responsible for data analytics, report generation, advanced querying techniques, providing data extractions and reporting solutions. In addition, you will also be responsible for gathering, communicating and documenting requirements with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders. Other responsibilities will include trouble shooting and resolving incidents for various existing production reporting/data solutions and assisting with planning and technology changes or upgrades in a complex integrated environment.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, self starter and thrive in a dynamic, technology driven environment. Proven experience and skills in effective communication, problem solving, data analysis, documentation standards, a rigor for process and change management protocols, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), waterfall and Agile methodology, balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines and quality control are also required.

You will have:

• Extensive experience in developing and building reports using IBM Cognos, Framework Manager and its components;
• Extensive experience with dimensional/cube reporting development and relational reporting;
• Extensive knowledge of relational and multi-dimensional data design and development techniques including star schema, snowflake schema, and Database Data Modeling;
• Experience in performing advanced data analysis, data mining and integrating tools such as ETL, Slow Changing Dimensions (SCD), Fact and Cube development etc;
• Experience utilizing multiple database tools, including Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 and Oracle;
• Preferred experience with Cognos Administration, Architecture and scheduling; and You will have technical knowledge of database concepts, theories, and disparate data sources systems using various computer platforms and demonstrated proven experience on report creation and data extraction, preferably in IBM Cognos, SPSS, SQL, Data integration (ETL) tools.
• Proven knowledge in all stages of the software development life cycle (especially Data Warehousing).
• Justice domain experience will be considered an asset.
• Must be able to develop Cognos reports and framework models that are flexible, scalable, and with best practices and adhere to standards.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:

The completion of a degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline, supplemented by several years of increasing responsibility and experience within a complex, integrated IT environment especially in Analytics, Data Warehousing and Reporting.
