Reporting Relationship  
The Human Resources Generalist will report directly to the Manager of Administration & Privacy under the Health and Wellness Department and will ensure that internal working relationships are developed with all Departments within M'Chigeeng First Nation.

Position Summary: 
The Human Resource Generalist for the Child and Family Services program is integral to the success and functionality of the Child and Family Services program. This position involves human resource development, administration and management of human resources.

By fostering a respectful and supportive work environment, the Human Resource Generalist helps build trust and strong relationships within the child and family services department. This trust is essential in creating a cohesive team that is dedicated to serving the community.
Effective human resource management directly translates to better service delivery. By ensuring that staff are well-supported, trained, and motivated, Human Resource Generalist plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of services provided to children and families.

The integration of cultural practices and values into the workplace not only respects the First Nation traditions but also promotes a sense of identity and pride among staff. This cultural alignment fosters a deep connection and commitment to the community's well-being.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Research and make recommendations for Human Resource management software to manage all aspects of human resource management for employees of the Child and Family Services program to the Manager of Child and Family Services.
  • Ensuring the recruitment process aligns with the cultural values and needs of the First Nation community
  • Develop a human resource recruitment and retention strategy for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Develop required position descriptions for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Develop required job postings and human resource tools for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Screening and interviewing candidates with members of the Child and Family Services management team.
  • Lead the formal recruitment and hiring process of staffing for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Developing, coordinating and implementing onboarding processes for current and new employees of the Child and Family Services program.
  • Maintain the Child and Family Services program work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions according to human resource policies on an annual basis and engage management staff within this process.
  • Develop evaluation tools for management of employees based on job descriptions for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Coordinate, plan and facilitate onboarding strategies/plans and assist with orientation to new employees for the Child and Family Services program.
  • Research, develop and recommend employee relations practices to foster positive employer-employee relations.
  • Develop and conduct exit interviews and make actionable recommendations based on complete interviews and data. 
  • Develop employee satisfaction surveys and formalize reports for the Manager of Administration and Privacy of Child and Family Services.
  • Organize hard and soft copies of employee records.
  • Ensure legal compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource requirements and conducting investigation when authorized by the Manager of Child and Family Services.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records
  • Overseeing workplace safety and health requirements
  • Coordinate and plan seminars, workshops and additional human resource training and conferences based on departmental needs. 
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all program documents and records.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise work files.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other relevant legislation.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance records and travel expense claims.
  • Comply with the M'Chigeeng First Nation human resource, finance and other policies and procedures in the performance of duties.

Qualifications and other requirements:

  • The minimum educational requirement for this role is a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
  • 3 (three) years' experience working in a First Nation Community or the Social Service Sector with human resource management.
  • Experience working with various office systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of M'Chigeeng First Nation programs and services.
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions and the
  • Seven Grandfather Teachings.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent administrative and research skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to develop high level professional documents.

  • Ability to understand and speak Anishnaabemowin is a definite asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Must provide a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Must have a Class 'G' Ontario Driver's License, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel
