Our E&I department is excited to be adding to its dynamic, culture driven team. Kings is currently seeking its next team member to fill the role of a Electrical Project Estimator for a full time position at our Calgary, Alberta branch.

Position Brief:

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for liaising with customers to interpret drawings and requirements to estimate the cost and resources required for electrical projects in various settings such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering. The role involves analyzing blueprints, collaborating with project managers to compile and deliver comprehensive project cost estimates and quotes to clients and internal stakeholders. A blend of technical knowledge and financial acumen is essential for anyone looking to excel in this position.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Complete project estimation from initial filing of RFQ documents to submission of estimates.
  • Ensure accurate interpretation of bid specifications, bid submission forms and all other associated requirements for successful submission of bid packages.
  • Analyze blueprints, technical drawings and customer requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical, instrumentation, controls, and turnkey package construction bids.
  • Review specifications and design drawings to determine the total scope of work to be performed, material requirements and associated costs to be included in the final estimate price.
  • Examine and analyze estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness of pricing, prepare bid packages, conceptual estimates, and analysis of potential sub-contractor bids for projects.
  • Ensure that all estimate packages are completed with a high level of attention to detail and submitted in accordance with customer requirements and deadlines
  • Collaborate with other estimators, project managers, procurement team and contractor(s) to define project scope and objectives and determine costs related to RFI's and work orders.
  • Obtain and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotes/ bids for services and materials
  • Review and evaluate bids and quotes for material and subcontractors (buildings, skid fabrication, estimates, or any other products or services as may be required for bid submission) for project estimates.
  • Assist in the development of project timelines and schedules
  • Review and assess project changes and their impact on costs and timelines
  • Review estimates internally with project managers, superintendents and externally with client presentations.
  • Compile and maintain comprehensive records of historical data and estimates, to be used as backups for estimate figures and maintain accurate current information on supplier prices, price lists, unit prices and quantity estimates.
  • Conduct site visits, if applicable, to assess project requirements and verify estimates
  • Assist sales team with technical meetings and responses as required.
  • Participate in project kickoff and project closeout meetings.
  • Participate in post-project reviews to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support day to day operations of field construction and project management

Education and Training required:

  • Journeyman electrician with 3-5 years' experience
  • Project Management experience or designation is an asset
  • Prior electrical estimating experience with Accubid
  • Valid CSTS-09 and First Aid certificates are an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, clean driver's abstract and reliable transportation required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical constructions processes, process control, automation and engineering practices.
  • Experience with electrical construction estimation and management for multi-scale projects
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards
  • Strong technical background in electrical systems and components
  • Experience working within industrial, oil & gas, and commercial facilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide information and direction to customers, co-workers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, electrical code, technical documents and client(s) specifications
  • Proficient with computer systems, including Microsoft Office suite, Accubid and AutoCAD
  • Customer service and client relationship focused
  • Ability to work with all levels of stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy for data entry and paperwork; including client and company sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of QHSE Procedures that relate to the IE & M Department functions
  • Strong analytical, mathematical problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team, within a complex, fast-moving work environment under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and time commitments to meet deadlines

Working Conditions:

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors.
  • Some travel to sites or branches may be required.
  • This is considered a safety sensitive position. You will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
