Family Caregivers of British Columbia (FCBC) is a registered charitable organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for family and friend caregivers through support, information, and education. We provide leadership to strengthen the voice of family caregivers and the significance of their role. We believe deeply that our ability to fully serve all family caregivers rests on having a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse team who recognizes, appreciates, and respects individual differences. We serve caregivers throughout the province and continue our 36 years of local, community-based service with the Greater Victoria Caregiver Support Program.

About the Position

Family Caregivers of BC is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Indigenous Liaison to join our team to strengthen outreach and support for family and friend caregivers. This role is vital in building trust, fostering relationships, and ensuring Indigenous caregivers have access to resources, services, and culturally safe support and education.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and the way care within families and communities is given, understood and valued. The Indigenous Liaison will assist us to unlearn colonial mindsets and practices, grow in knowledge, and adapt ways of working. They will be a key link to identifying Indigenous caregivers, facilitating conversations about their needs and connecting them to FCBC programs and resources to support well-being.

This is a new, term position (with potential to continue) as part of a two year REACHing Caregivers Project, nested within a bigger collective impact project in the Greater Victoria area. Funded by New Horizon's for Seniors and hosted by the Municipality of Saanich, this project will bridge health and social systems to connect vulnerable caregivers with the supports they need. The project is an expansion of our evidence-based innovative model, Caregiver Rx Social Prescribing. It targets older adult caregivers, and caregivers of older adults who may be both socially isolated and in distress due to their caregiving role. We will be guided by social determinants of health, using a wholistic model of physical, social, mental and spiritual wellbeing

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement: build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, caregivers, and service providers.
  • Mentor and guide staff and Volunteer Ambassadors to engage respectfully with Indigenous communities, enhancing their cultural awareness and outreach effectiveness.
  • Develop Caregiver Support Plans, with, or alongside caregivers, together with the Caregiver Support Specialist staff.
  • Assist when needed to facilitate peer groups (circles).
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities to co-create workshops, community gatherings or sharing circles that reflect traditional knowledge, caregiving practices, and community priorities.
  • Identify barriers to access and advocate for caregiver needs.
  • Maintain records and contribute to program evaluation and reporting

Qualifications

  • Lived experience or strong connection with Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and caregiving practices.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and how they impact health outcomes.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in community outreach, social services, or health care.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly across diverse settings.
  • Experience using video conferencing (such as Zoom, Teams) and able to work in a digital, networked environment using Microsoft Office.
  • Valid BC driver's license and access to transportation.

Location: Greater Victoria, British Columbia

Position Type: Part-time (20–30 hours/week)

Schedule: Flexible hours, including occasional evenings/weekends depending on the need to connect with organizations and the people they serve, and individual caregiver's schedules

Hourly Wage: $32.00 – $42.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications
