The Indigenous Community Liaison (ICL) provides culturally appropriate support to Indigenous residents across Cool Aid’s Housing and Shelters portfolio. This role is key in helping Indigenous residents maintain their housing, articulating and managing concerns and needs, and providing case management support. The ICL works closely with Cool Aid clients, support teams as well as community partners, providing support and access to cultural activities and supports through a relational, collaborative approach. The ICL will also work with the Director of Indigenous relations and Program Development to develop and implement a variety of cultural activities.
To succeed in this role, you will have an excellent understanding of the challenges faced by our Indigenous clients, including experience supporting individuals who face multiple barriers such as substance use, mental health concerns, low income, and the negative impacts of colonialism and racism. You must be able to provide teachings, knowledge of Indigenous and urban Indigenous culture, traditions, and history as a way of supporting resident’s connection to their culture and community. Experience helping clients navigate issues of racism that may occur at all levels of engagement; from one’s own colleagues and from outside organizations.
**Qualifications**
**Education**
- Degree or diploma in a related human, social services, or Indigenous field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
**Experience**
- At least two (2) years of direct experience working in a program with Indigenous peoples/communities, including participant-centered case management and implementing case plans.
**Requirements**:
- Successful completion of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
- Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clear driver's abstract.
- Indigenous Ancestry is required for this position.
**Job Information**
- ** Hourly Wage Rate**: $30.18 - $33.49
- ** Work Location**: 749 Pandora Ave - Mike Gidora Place- _ Note: _This position requires travel to other housing and shelter sites._
- ** Shift Time**: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- ** Schedule**: Monday to Friday
- ** Weekly Hours**: 40
- ** Job Type**: Full-time, Permanent
