Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Working Shop Foreman to oversee daily operations in our service and repair facility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in heavy equipment - both operationally and with diagnosis and repairs, with the ability to lead a team effectively. This role requires hands-on experience with heavy duty equipment, on highway trucks, aggregate hauling trailers, and various other construction equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of team members in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Strong understanding of operating various types of heavy equipment, including repair equipment, hydraulics systems, on highway tractors, aggregate hauling trailers/systems, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Assemble and disassemble machinery as needed for repairs or maintenance.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to diagnose, identify issues, and perform necessary repairs.
  • Train and mentor team members on proper techniques for operating machinery and performing repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, promoting safety at all times.
  • Collaborate with all divisions to schedule maintenance and ensure minimal downtime for operations.
  • Handle heavy lifting as required.
  • Other tasks and activities as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in heavy equipment repairs and diagnosis, red seal journeyman technician, and a strong understanding of hydraulic systems, engine diagnosis, electrical/wiring, and team leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently book shop work for minimal downtime for repairs.
  • Ability to order parts (OEM & aftermarket), help manage parts inventory, and understand parts department concepts and turn rate. .
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide apprentice and journeyman technicians.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
  • Oversee daily operations of the service department, including technician scheduling, workflow coordination, and interdepartmental communication.
  • Coordinating required technician training, including safety training, in collaboration with Health & Safety/HR.
  • Monitor work orders and job completion timelines to ensure service quality and on-time delivery and proper electronic records are completed in full.
  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician certification and CVIP licensing.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of responsibility.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with a class 1 or class 3 drivers license. At minimum a valid class 5 driver's license and clean driving abstract are required.
  • While travel is not anticipated for the role, occasional on site repairs may be required.

Related Physical, & Safety Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently; push/pull equipment, tools, and components weighing up to 150 lbs. as needed.
  • Comfortable working in and around heavy equipment, including climbing onto machinery and working in confined spaces.
  • Tolerance for occasional exposure to shop and field environmental elements.
  • Maintain a safe, efficient, and organized shop environment, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and policies.
