Working as part of a collaborative clinical team and reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Behaviour Associate advances our mission and vision to provide a supportive and caring environment and to support our clients to reach their full potential using a person centered model to respond to each client's specific education, social, behavioural and recreational needs.

This position will work closely with the Behaviour Therapist and Location Managers to implement program plans for each of our clients. They will collaborate to provide behavioural leadership to support complex individuals. This position will develop, utilize, and modify behaviour management strategies to meet the needs of our clients and their families.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with providing direction/coaching for clinical responsibilities of Instructor Therapists.
  • Intake Process.
  • Participate in on-call.
  • Participate in transition planning for new clients.
  • Review all documents provided for new client and collaborate with Behaviour Therapist on what initial documents/protocols/plans/etc. need to be created before new client move in date and what is priority for client once moved in
  • Collaborate with Behaviour Therapist on staff training required before new client move in date and what is priority once client is moved in.
  • Discharge Process
  • Discuss all issues with Behaviour Therapist and exhaust measures to assist in maintaining placement before discharge.
  • Communicate issues with Behaviour Therapist and possible need for discharge before approaching Clinical Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with Behaviour Therapist on what Clinical Documents need to be transferred to new placement.
  • Complete discharge POC/ISP with Location Manager before discharge date occurs.
  • Reviews
  • Ensure all documents are kept up to date and prepared for their bi-annual or annual review.
  • Staff Training
  • Facilitate team meetings/training, including the preparation of training materials for caseload.
  • Provide on the floor coaching and training to staff for their caseloads.
  • Follow policy and procedure for supervision of board certification.
  • Model excellent communication and team building for staff.
  • Safe Management
  • Alert the Behaviour Therapist if SMG guidelines are met for a specialized consultation or if issues with SMG training for particular client.
  • Attend SMG specialized consultation and complete necessary portions of Pre-consult package and roll out of strategies.
  • Ensure proper SMG strategies are incorporated into client documents such as Escalation continuum and ISP/POC.
  • SOR-RL/SORs
  • Completing SORs as they occur and provide updates ensuring proper completion.
  • PRN protocols
  • Completes bi-weekly Audits for PRN protocols, MARS and PRN Record Sheets.
  • Special Care Rates
  • Collaborate with Behaviour Therapist on need for additional staffing and reasoning.
  • Assessments, Behavioural Interventions and Skill Acq Programming
  • Assist and Conduct FBA and Skill assessments for case load.
  • Participate in the development and running of FA's.
  • Supervise and collaborate on the development, training, implementation, and ongoing supervision of evidence-based behavioural interventions and skill acquisition programming.
  • Ensure assessment binders are updated bi-annually, complete data analysis, graphing, supervision notes and reports.
  • Assist with crisis planning and intervention.
  • Assist Behaviour Therapist when requested with BSP.
  • Ensures program binders for caseload are maintained and communicates with location manager to ensure staff review documentation that does not require direct training.
  • Medical and Psychiatric Appointments
  • Participates and prepare appropriate documents such as graphs for appointments.
  • POC/ISP
  • Complete assigned sections of document and assist Behaviour Therapist.
  • Attend and assist in running the POC/ISP meetings.
  • Risk Assessment
  • Collaborates with Clinical team to conduct risk assessments and management.
  • Caseload Supervision
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of behaviour trends through review of graphs, IR's and SOR's.
  • Oversee implementation, by IT and Direct care staff, of behavioural and skill acq. Programming and collects IOA data.
  • Support larger clinical team to ensure all documentation is completed and up to date for caseload.
  • Participates in monthly clinical meetings with Behaviour Therapist.
  • Supports family involvement as part of the clinical team.
  • Provide 1:1 support as needed.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Psychology, or related discipline and BCaBA Certification is required
  • BCaBA in good standing with BACB
  • 3 years experience in an similar behaviour role with ASD or other intellectual disabilities
  • Drivers License and a reliable vehicle
  • First Aid Level C
  • Successful Criminal Record Check with VSS
  • Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of behavioral programming involving data collection, data tracking, graphing, and summarizing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues and pervasive developmental disorder gained through experience working with clients in a hospital, residential, education or community setting. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers and data, including Excel
  • High energy and highly motivated, able to take initiative with creativity and flexibility
  • Ability to observe, record and evaluate change in human behaviour
  • Ability to work as a member of the team as well as independently without supervision
  • Experience in crisis response
  • Proven excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and effective oral-written communication skills
  • The ability to perform the physical aspects of the position
  • Demonstrate adaptability, reliability, and stress tolerance
