Responsibilities
Testing of Home + Kitchen devices is performed by a different role. The primary responsibility of the Staff Writer is to use the results from testing to understand how a product performs and where it fits in the market, and to communicate this understanding through various types of work:
- Write and update buying recommendations (example for toasters)
- Write and update product reviews (example vacuum) and comparisons between products (example for Air Purifiers)
- Write scripts for videos that review products, compare products, or recommend products to buy (example)
- Interact with our community and answer questions (example)
Personality
- You love devices around the home to improve comfort, cleanliness, or for cooking. You care about the best performance
- You love doing research and comparing products. You typically spend weeks researching before buying something
- You like helping people. The whole purpose of our website is to help people find the best product for them
- Keep up to date with the market news, discussions and opinions surrounding home and kitchen products
- You are good at explaining complex subjects
Qualification/Experience
- Strong English communication & writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Fast learner
- Previous experience writing product reviews and/or working in retail/sales is a bonus
- We're open to hiring either an entry-level candidate, or one with more experience as follows:
Writer I
Entry level position, but other levels can be achieved within two years of employment.
Salary range: $52-$57k
- Less than two years of professional writing experience
- You are a hobbyist for one or more of the products we review
- You are familiar with the market of the products we review
- You are interested in learning how to write for different intended audiences and grow into Writer Level II
Writer II
Note: Further advancement exists beyond this role.
Salary range: $62-$85k
- More than two years of professional writing experience
- Deep interest and understanding of multiple Kitchen & Home devices (e.g. Mattresses, Microwaves, Vacuums and Robot Vacuums, etc)
- You participate in various hobbyist communities like subreddits and Discord channels
Senior
There is also a potential career path in management after Writer II, becoming a Team Lead, which is a different role that we hire for.
Salary range: $80-105k
- You are a recognized voice in home & kitchen gear communities.
- You have a deep technical understanding about how products work and their intent.
- You have written home & kitchen product reviews in the past
- You have leadership/management experience
