About CPS
CPS Capital is a Toronto-based private equity firm founded in 2013, focused on investing in North American lower middle market companies. We focus on "microcap" businesses that traditional private equity firms often overlook, generally with EBITDA in the 2 to 10 million range. Today, we have 8 active platform investments and approximately C$280m in assets under management.
We have a culture that's different from many traditional private equity firms. We expect high quality work and give our team meaningful responsibility early on. Analysts are closely involved in live deals, portfolio work, and problem solving across the firm. We take a hands-on, practical approach and focus on getting things done, especially in situations that require extra effort or creative thinking. We work closely with the entrepreneurs and management teams we partner with,
and we take pride in supporting them when it matters. We're a small, collaborative team that enjoys working together and is committed to building strong businesses.
The Opportunity
We are seeking to hire an Analyst to be a key member of our team and to support all aspects of the deal process as well as portfolio company initiatives. We value entrepreneurialism, independence, resourcefulness, integrity, curiosity, accountability, determination, and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Opportunities:
o Conduct industry research to support new investment thesis generation
o Screen new investment opportunities, performing first-line financial, operational, and commercial
analysis.
o Support proprietary and brokered deal sourcing initiatives
o Support all aspects of transaction execution including management calls, company financial and
operational diligence, transaction modeling, investment memorandum preparation, and extensive industry diligence.
Portfolio Management:
o Support corporate development efforts (e.g. source and execute "tuck-in" acquisitions)
o Support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, planning, and financial analysis
o Interact with portfolio company senior management to support corporate initiatives and monitor
performance
o Participate in board meetings and strategic planning sessions
Required Skills
Strong business fundamentals and solid accounting knowledge
Strong work ethic and ability to manage deadlines with excellent attention to detail
Proven ability to take initiative, own workstreams, and push tasks forward, while knowing when to ask questions
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Clear, concise communication and strong interpersonal skills
Curiosity and interest in building businesses and investing
Required Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree in business or commerce
2-3 years' experience in consulting or a deals-focused role, or experience in mid-market credit, structured finance, or investment banking
