POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager of Education, the Career Counsellor / Caseworker supports Inuit youth in setting and achieving their educational and career goals. This role involves individualized career planning, case management, and collaboration with schools, external partners, and community organizations to ensure youth have access to meaningful opportunities and support.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage intake and develop tailored career action plans for each youth.
- Hold weekly individual meetings with youth to review progress, set goals, and identify skill-building or job opportunities.
- Utilize assessments to evaluate interests, strengths, and development areas.
- Guide youth through decisions about education, training, and career planning.
- Support the entire career journey from school transitions to job placement and workplace adaptation.
- Provide hands-on assistance with resumes, interview prep, networking, and job application strategies.
- Help youth address workplace challenges, including conflict resolution.
- Partner with the Program Coordinator to design and deliver targeted training (e.g., life skills, job readiness).
- Collaborate with schools to align academic progress with career paths.
- Facilitate both internal and external referrals for supplementary support services.
- Coordinate with the YESS , Post Secondary team to align training and job placements with youth career aspirations.
- Lead workshops and presentations to enhance youth employability.
- Advocate for youth transitioning into employment, ensuring ongoing support.
- Complete all assigned duties that Coordinator or Manager request to be done.
ACCOUNTABILITY

- Maintain accurate, confidential case documentation and reports.
- Monitor program supplies and procure inventory as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to address program and individual youth needs.
- Actively participate in weekly team meetings and foster open communication.
- Support continuous program improvement through innovation and feedback.
- Engage in professional development as directed
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Work regular and consistent weekly hours of work.
- Required to work regular evening and weekend hours related to program activities, engagement activities and community events.
- Additional hours on occasion to meet deadlines and ensure delivery of high-quality programs and services.
- Must demonstrate stress resistance and stamina.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Diploma or degree in Career Development, Social Work, Education, or related field.
- Experience in youth counselling, case management, or educational support.
- Deep understanding of career planning, education systems, and employment services.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Inuit descent preferred; fluency in Inuktitut and knowledge of Inuit culture, values, and traditions are strong assets.
- Familiarity with urban Inuit community dynamics and local Inuit/non Inuit service networks.
- Ability to balance independent work with collaboration in a team setting
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Inuit descent preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Inuit culture and community
- Written and spoken fluency in Inuktitut an asset.
- Knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and families
- Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
- Current Police Record check - Vulnerable Sector Check required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Personnel Policies & Procedures
- Medical certification of good health and fitness to work.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccine (Dose 1 & 2) and booster shot.
- TB Test if applicable and other immunizations up to date
- CPR / First Aid Certification (or willingness to become certified).
