As a Finance Coordinator, Budget, you will report to a Corporate Finance Leader in the Corporate Budget Office and provide financial expertise and oversight over The City's operating and capital budgets. This position will review requests from other areas of Finance and be responsible for interpreting adjustments and ensuring compliance with Council and Administration policies. Primary duties include:

  • Update and reconcile operating and capital budget control books monthly.
  • Review operating and capital adjustment submissions for accuracy and to ensure compliance with Council and Administration policies.
  • Monitor and maintain budgets using Hyperion Budgeting System.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management and Council, by providing data and consolidating variance explanations into a cohesive total city report.
  • Track and prepare supporting documentation for corporate reserves.
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain processes in Corporate Budget Office.
  • Provide training and guidance and expertise to other Business Units and management to resolve issues and provide budget recommendations.
  • Participate in Corporate Budget Office's preparation for new budget cycles and annual adjustments.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis to support management and Business Unit specific inquiries.
  • Research, interpret, and summarize Council proceedings and minutes.
  • Rotating duties on a regular basis may be required.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related discipline plus a professional accounting designation such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • At least 5 years of related experience in accounting, reporting, and financial analysis is required.
  • Financial reporting and budgeting experience is also required.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and in Data Analytics.
  • PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management (FSCM) and Oracle Hyperion Planning experience will be considered assets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • The successful applicant will have demonstrated competencies, such as change management, strong communication skills, analytical thinking, efficiency and thoroughness, attention to detail, coaching and developing others, value and ethics, customer focus, collaboration and ability to work independently.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
