This posting is to hire a permanent position, working 75 hours bi-weekly as a Hearing Instrument Practitioner.
The job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.
Our team
Hearing Services is the public audiology service for the Yukon Territory. Our team strives to provide inclusive, accessible hearing health services to all Yukoners, from newborns to older adults. The Hearing Services program provides diagnostic audiological evaluations, hearing screenings, hearing aid evaluations, dispenses hearing aids and provides follow-up care to the public. The program consists of a team of 2 audiologists, program manager, technician and administrative assistant support. The program supports multi-professional care in collaboration with specialist clinics, long-term care facilities, student support services and the Child Development Centre.
Your role
Reporting to the Manager of Hearing Services, the Hearing Instrument Practitioner empowers adults with hearing loss by conducting audiometric hearing tests, recommending, and fitting assistive listening devices, and providing ongoing follow-up support. This role supports the audiologists in delivering pediatric care by assisting with assessments and troubleshooting hearing aids. Furthermore, the Hearing Instrument Practitioner is responsible for completing administrative tasks related to assistive listening devices such a processing 3rd party funding application, submitting repair orders, and receiving/verifying new hearing aid and repair orders. Under the supervision of a registered audiologist, the Hearing Instrument Practitioner also leads the administration of the Newborn and Kindergarten Hearing Screening programs.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Current license with a regulatory hearing instrument practitioner authority in a Canadian jurisdiction; a student or restricted license may be considered.
- Recent experience working as a hearing instrument practitioner or related (including practicums).
- Experience performing basic audio testing and speech testing; experience selecting and evaluating hearing aid performance using sound field and/or Real Ear testing.
- Experience programming a large selection of digital hearing aids.
- Experience or training in taking ear impressions for earmolds.
- Experience performing earmold modifications and hearing aid trouble shooting is desirable.
- Experience working with both young children and the elderly is an asset.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- Valid Yukon Driver's License,
- Current licensure with College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (CHAPA), or equivalent license with another jurisdiction in Canada.
- RMCP Vulnerable Sector Check Clearance
- WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Ability to work with, and support, clients with hearing impairments.
- Capable of thoroughly inspecting and manipulating small hearing aid device components using corrective lenses and magnifying glasses, while demonstrating manual dexterity
- Ability to provide compassionate care for clients who struggle to adopt hearing aids, or who have exceptional needs
- This position works in a normal office environment.
- Physical effort includes sitting at desk, and standing and bending when providing care, assessments, and evaluation to patients.
- This position lives and works in Whitehorse, Yukon; working hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm
