The Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie provides emergency shelter and outreach services to women experiencing abuse and human trafficking. Our environment is fast paced and has well established connections in the City of Barrie for over 43 years. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Community Development Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of the agency's Fundraising and Community Development plan. The Community Development Manager provides leadership of the fundraising team to acquire the funding that ensures sustainability for the on-going daily operations of the agency and any future capital requirements. The Community Development Manager will have energy, drive and ambition to improve our agency and to serve as a liaison with the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic marketing, awareness and training plans for the shelter. The Community Development Manager supervises employees in accordance to the guidelines of the Collective Agreement. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation, which includes evening and weekend support to shelter staff to support situations that may arise.

Duties or Responsibilities: Fundraising

· Research, develop, and initiate innovative and conventional fundraising strategies, to ensure capital and annual operating needs are met.

· Cultivate, solicit, and steward new donor relationships and prospective donors and sponsors of events.

· Ensure donor tracking and correspondence systems are accurate.

· Ensure all fundraising activities comply with funding sources, common practices, organization guidelines, and government requirements including tax/license requirements.

· Ensures appropriate and professional staffing and volunteers for fundraising events and activities.

· Plan and implement recognition and appreciation activities to adequately thank, support and retain long-term relationships with donors, third-party event organizers, and volunteers.

Duties or Responsibilities: Community Relations

· Develop and initiate a communications plan, defining key audiences, activities, and timelines for both external and internal stakeholders.

· Develop a communications plan as needed for specific critical issues and special projects.

· Liaise with media, ensuring frequent and accurate media exposure for the agency.

· Engage in networking activities with community groups and key stakeholders that will provide opportunities to increase the organization's contact network.

· Work in partnership with the Executive Director to build community relationships and education through various training and speaking engagements.

Duties or Responsibilities: Volunteers

· Create and implement a Fundraising Volunteer Program to carry out the fundraising activities of the agency.

· Support the Fundraising admin support to organize and direct the Volunteer Committee.

· Coordinate volunteers to assist in first- party and special events.

· Support the Fundraising Admin Team to recruit and lead volunteers involved with fundraising activities.

Duties or Responsibilities: Administrative

· Research grant, foundation, service clubs, and government project funding opportunities and create a database of contacts for follow-up and future use.

· Prepare, write, submit, and monitor grant applications that are appropriate to the mission of the agency.

· Acquire and maintain a sound knowledge and understanding of WCS and use that knowledge when writing grant proposals.

· Create a fundraising budget for each fiscal year outlining projected revenues and expenditures.

· Manage the ongoing use of the fundraising software- Donor Perfect.

· Management of the preparation and distribution of agency materials including newsletters, Annual General Reports, brochure inserts, and solicitation letters.

· Contribute to the agency website in terms of fundraising ideas and suggestions.

· Work with event print/creative vendors and sponsors to create event materials.

· Track all revenue and expenses from each event and provide regular reports of financial status to the Executive Director.

· Fulfil ongoing documentation/reporting requirements for external funding sources in collaboration with the Business Manager.

Duties or Responsibilities: Other Duties

· Participate in monthly management meeting, staff meetings and other committees as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.

· Required to work some evenings and weekends as necessary to facilitate events, community speaking engagements and trainings.

· Participate in an on-call rotation and/or cover shelter shifts in the case of emergency staffing deficits.

· To perform other related duties as directed by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

· University Degree. With a specialization in fundraising is required.

· College Diploma in Fundraising or Marketing will be considered if previous experience is appropriate.

· A minimum of five years direct fundraising experience preferred

· Proven record in fundraising, especially in the area of major gifts.

· Excellent professional writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent networking, interpersonal and presentation skills: ability to speak to groups of people in a variety of settings.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher), email, Adobe Acrobat etc.

· Experience and/or an ease of learning to use fundraising management software i.e Donor Perfect

· Experience producing print materials (brochures, programs, posters, newsletters) and multimedia programs.

· Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills.

· Strong problem-solving skills.

· An understanding of the non-profit and social services sector including an awareness of violence against women, human trafficking, mental health and addictions.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Experience supervising administrative staff and volunteers an asset.

· Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment.

· Self-motivated and dependable

  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Valid C.P.R. and First Aid Certificate
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with $1,000,000 liability
  • Awareness of feminist principles, trauma informed leadership and harm reduction implementation is beneficial.
