Department DescriptionPathology and Laboratory Medicine
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PaLM) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Pathology Administrative Assistant (MPAA) to join our team. MPAAs are essential members of the pathology support team, providing secretarial and administrative support to Pathologists, Residents, and Fellows. In this role, you will help produce a high volume of complex surgical pathology and autopsy reports, support diagnostic, teaching, and research activities, and provide Laboratory Information System (Cerner Pathology) support. MPAAs also assist with laboratory processes such as block filing and archiving, and may be assigned other duties as required. This role is vital to ensuring timely and accurate reporting, smooth workflow, and effective communication within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Regular Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $27.54 per hour - $34.42 per hour
Qualifications- Successful completion of a two (2) year college certificate in Medical Office Administration or Medical Secretary diploma
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an administrative role; two (2) years preferred
- Knowledgeable of medical terminology and anatomy
- Previous experience with medical transcription
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with impeccable multi-tasking abilities while ensuring excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with all staff and contribute to a collaborative work environment
- Proficient Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, MS Teams)
- Knowledge of healthcare software systems (PowerChart, Cerner)
- Ability to endure some physical demands (material handling, filing, archiving)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
- Ability to identify opportunities and strategies to enhance process efficiency and workflow
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Purpose, Vision and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
