Primary Duties

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for accurately coordinating the implementation of internal and external communications plans. The incumbent develops and implements communication tactics that are aligned with the communications strategy. They generate and schedule content for various online and offline communication channels, both internally and externally.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Update and coordinate internal and external communications for campaigns, events and awards.

  2. Maintain content calendars for internal and external communications vehicles, supporting strategic initiatives as defined in the annual communications plan.

  3. Photograph and video subject matter to support internal and external communications channels.

  4. Design promotional materials and assets including posters/flyers, email graphics, brochures, etc.

  5. Design, send and track monthly employee newsletters.

  6. Liaise with departments and graphic designers, print-houses, and other content developers to ensure materials and images are aligned with communication goals.

  7. Develop written content for internal and external communication channels including news releases, website articles, emails, social media posts, and annual reports etc. Ensure content is up to date, engaging, and is consistent with brand standards.

  8. Update and maintain the Social Media Management System.

  9. Liaise with vendors and assist employees in purchasing branded promotional items.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

  1. Advanced MS Office and social media skills

  2. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills

  3. Basic video editing and graphic design skills

  4. Advanced writing and editing skills

  5. Basic understanding of html coding

  6. Advanced time management skills

  7. Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail

Knowledge:

  1. Advanced knowledge of social media platforms

  2. Basic understanding of best practices in creating website content

  3. Basic understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and intermediate understanding of creating accessible documents

  4. Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organization and operational requirements

Experience:

  1. Degree or Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Administration or equivalent, or an acceptable combination of education, training and professional experience

  2. Minimum 2 years' experience in communications, marketing or public relations, focused on external communications, content development, and social media management.

  3. Class G drivers' licence
