Minimum Educational Req: Two-year college degree in the area of Business Administration, Sales, Marketing or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Four year degree preferred.
Years of Experience: 2+ years of sales or business development experience
Position Summary
The Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for driving revenue growth through lead generation, qualification, and distribution of leads to Business Development Executives within the Sales Department. The BDR will drive additional revenue by actively prospecting and managing some existing accounts in their own.
This individual will be a highly motivated, self-starter that's able to identify decision makers and develop new business prospects from multiple sources including prospect lists, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, marketing campaigns, and individual research. An ideal Business Development Representative will have a strong understanding of the early stages of the sales funnel and excel at researching leads to drive the top of the sales funnel process for our Business Development Executives, while ensuring proper data and CRM systems are followed. This role focuses on creating qualified opportunities through strategic prospecting, lead nurturing, and initial relationship building with potential clients.
Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities
- Achieve sales quota and assigned strategic objectives within an assigned book of business while supporting overall revenue growth through lead generation and distribution.
- Conduct substantial prospecting for new opportunities through cold calling, email campaigns, social selling via LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and targeted outreach to identify and engage potential clients or target accounts within Canada.
- Research and analyze reports, market trends, and additional data to determine where to seek out new business opportunities. Identify target potential through company size, product needs, and buying cycles.
- Obtain, clean, and qualify leads from inbound initiatives, marketing campaigns, conferences, industry lists, website inquiries, and individual research. Determine fit and readiness for sales engagement through discovery conversations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all prospecting activities, conversations, and prospect information in the CRM system (Salesforce). Ensure data quality, proper lead tracking through the pipeline, and facilitate data entry where applicable.
- Conduct initial discovery conversations to understand prospect challenges, business needs, organizational structure, and buying processes. Identify client needs and suggest appropriate products/services.
- Facilitate warm handoffs of qualified prospective clients to Business Development Executives. Schedule qualified discovery meetings and product demonstrations with decision makers and influencers.
- Engage with current partners and provide support on select accounts to maintain relationships and identify expansion opportunities.
- Work closely with Business Development Executives, Regional Sales Managers, and marketing team to develop targeted outreach strategies, provide feedback on lead quality, and support campaign initiatives.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of nurture campaigns and additional marketing, prospecting, and retention tools as they relate to sales strategies. Collaborate on campaign development and execution.
- Report to Sales Manager with weekly, monthly, and quarterly results including activity metrics, pipeline development, and lead conversion rates.
- Assist with lead generation efforts at trade shows, conferences, and virtual events. Follow up with event leads in a timely manner. Attend and present at events/meetings as needed to build awareness and engagement.
- Identify best practices to refine the company's lead generation playbook. Participate in sales training, coaching sessions, and team meetings. Refine outreach messaging and techniques based on results and feedback.
- Achieve daily and weekly activity targets for calls, emails, meetings scheduled, and opportunities created to support overall team revenue goals.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience in creating (prospecting, selling, closing, managing) strategic client relationships.
- Experience in working with key decision makers and industry influencers resulting in successful channel penetration and increased market share.
- Experience developing and implementing sales and service processes and supporting metrics through sales data collection and analysis.
- Proven effectiveness of establishing and maintaining strong relationships to drive revenue growth.
- Experience in, and working knowledge of, relevant industry needs and trends.
Language Requirements:
- Proficiency in English is required to perform the duties of this role. Bilingual proficiency in French is considered an asset.
Skills Required:
- Consistent history for achieving monthly, quarterly, and annual sales quotas.

Technical Skills Required:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with CRM software (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
- Experience with video conferencing (MS Teams, Zoom, GoToMeeting, etc.) and general A/V knowledge to effectively present to clients on site.
- Comfortable with learning and adapting to new technologies.
- Familiarity with Google platform tools (Google Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Analytics) preferred.

Internal and External Interaction:
This position interacts with peers both in and out of department and their immediate manager on a regular basis. They interact with customers directly in daily interactions as well as escalation or support situations in a defined geographical area. They may interact with managers in other departments and vendors.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise the work of others.
