Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the JLP Co-Directors, the Finance and Administrative Assistant is responsible for supporting the financial, administrative, and operational functions of the JLP.

This includes processing, recording, and reconciling financial transactions; managing program information; providing reception and administrative services; and coordinating the shipping and inventory of program materials.

The position ensures a positive first point of contact for individuals interacting with the JLP and contributes to the program's mandate of fostering improved labour relations in the public service.

The role requires sensitivity to diversity, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to sustain and support the unique collaborative administrative and delivery environment of the JLP.

What you will bring to the table:
Education/Experience
  • Experience in bookkeeping, processing transactions, administration support, and coordinating logistics and materials.
Knowledge
  • Excellent ability to organize, strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Tact, reliability, discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer in a Windows environment and ability to work with common business program applications, including the internet, email, word processing software, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and shipping procedures.
  • Written and oral English and French communication skills are essential.
  • Basic knowledge of trade union roles and objectives as well as familiarity with government organizations and the JLP objectives, philosophy and activities.
Abilities
  • Ability to work independently and with others to determine work priorities when faced with multiple demands and time constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a collaborative team environment involving colleagues representing the union and the employer within the national office and the regions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (22 kg).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, providing a positive first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders

  • Second language level indicated above is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Preferred candidates may have their second language skills assessed as part of the hiring process. However, valid federal government SLE results can be used toward this.
