About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Joint Venture Accounting, the Team Lead, Joint Venture Accounting (JVA) Partnerships North is responsible for leading the Joint Venture analysts, as well as performing all Joint Venture Accounting tasks with assigned partners from our northern operations. This role incorporates an understanding of all aspects of operated and non-operated facilities and wells including ownership, production accounting, operating expenses, non-owner processing, Joint Venture payables and receivables. Working with both internal and external business partners on JV accounting issues and resolutions.
The role works closely with other leads, and managers to develop joint venture accounting organization strategy and goals. Supports future asset sales or acquisitions with AR and AP data as required. Ensures that items are billed and collected on sale properties, or acquisitions, deadlines and changes in ownership are handled appropriately, JIBs are accurate throughout the sale process until FSOA closure.
What you'll do:- Provide day-to-day guidance to the North Joint Venture accounting team.
- Perform all Joint Venture Accounting (Operated and Non-Operated Joint Interest Billing, Surface, Mineral, Roads) for assigned partners.
- Work with other leads and manager to develop joint venture accounting priorities.
- Conduct performance goal setting and review conversations with all staff.
- Train, mentor, and develop staff to ensure that staff are fully capable of performing their duties and can continue to increase their joint venture accounting competency and individual leadership skills.
- Maximize partner recoveries through understanding agreements and PASC guidelines and ensuring we charge partners where possible correctly the first time.
- Understand and support overall compliance with SOX processes and controls.
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent work experience
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
- Minimum 8 years of applicable Industry Experience in Land Accounting, Joint Venture Accounting, Royalty Management, Audit, Joint Interest and Land
- Knowledge of job or industry specific practices or processes; critical/unique skills/knowledge
- Formal leadership experience is an asset
