Grinding Operator

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for maintaining, programming and operating all equipment in the company's grinding department to achieve GMI and customer requirements. This individual takes appropriate actions to ensure that completed work meets and/or exceeds all quality and safety requirements. This individual will perform these tasks and responsibility with minimal supervision, demonstrating a high level of technical capability, while acting as source of guidance and mentorship to other labour supports in the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Grind external or internal cylindrical tapered surfaces of GMI machined product
• Rough and finish flat, cylindrical, and conical surfaces of GMI machined product
• Read and interpret charts, drawings, and blueprints, determining and programming product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground
• Use and understanding of micrometers, calipers and preset gauges
• Maintain and report on production inventory, as well as scrap output of all Grinding operation processes
• Maintain inventory of required equipment of area, replacing and mounting equipment and tooling as required
• Inspect routinely operated equipment for concerns and report for repair/replacement
• Completion of PM's on all equipment in the area, including Grinders, Stampers, Hoppers and Automated equipment for work-feeding devices
• Safely maintains the area, using proper wheel guards on all grinding machines, as well as keeping the work area free of hazards
• May be required at times to operate the manual saw, transport product to and from the department, as well as other general maintenance responsibilities to support the department
• Acts as the position of guidance for all labour supports in the area, directing and training on company instructions
• Adheres to and follows Ontario Health & Safety Act, Company Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, and;

Minimum two years specialized training or trade school related training or;

5+ years' in a high volume production/manufacturing role

Compensation will consist of an hourly rate, subject to additional payment in the form of company bonuses, incentives and shift premiums.

We offer an additional vacation accrual rate above and beyond employment standards, starting at a base of 6%.
