Candidates from outside of the immediate Squamish area can expect to be housed on a ship moored on site during their shift.Position SummaryROE Environmental Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Marine Mammal Monitoring Program Manager for an immediate start. This role will be engaged in the Woodfibre LNG project site in Squamish, BC and other future projects in the same area. The successful candidate will lead and manage marine mammal mitigation initiatives, manage monitoring teams, and contribute to regulatory compliance and reporting. This dynamic position involves shift work, including day and night shifts, and will require non-local candidates to live on-site during rotations if not a Squamish, BC resident. Strong leadership, technical expertise in marine mammal observation and acoustic monitoring, and the legal right to work in Canada are essential.POSITION TERMSPosition is available for immediate start.Position to require shift work – typically 2 weeks on (Monday to Sunday), 1 weeks off. Your participation in some discussion threads will be required off shift as well.Position will require both day and night shift.Normal working days are likely to be up to hours hours/week).POSITION LOCATIONThe position will be based on the Woodfibre LNG project site in Squamish, BC. Candidates from outside of the immediate Squamish area can expect to be housed on a ship moored on site during their shift.Position RequirementsProven and diverse experience as a Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) and Passive Acoustic Monitor, including leadership positions across a range of projects and ecosystems.Experience supervising marine mammal mitigation teams of >20 MMOs.Must have Small Vessel Operator Proficiency, Small Vessel Domestic Vessel – Basic Safety, Restricted Operator Certificate – Marine, and marine first aid in addition to 1 year of commercial vessel operation in waters comparable to Howe Sound.Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) / Protected Species Observer (PSO) Certification accredited by Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).Minimum 3-5 years of MMO/PSO consulting experience and experience with PAM (Passive Acoustic Monitoring).Extensive knowledge of bioacoustics and experience with hydrophone operation.Master of Science degree or higher level of education.Eligibility for registration with the College of Applied Biology, or current designation in good standing.Strong interpersonal skills are essential for client and contractor communications, and collaboration with a large team of observers.Previous experience working with First Nations stakeholders related to marine mammal resource management.Strong data collection and analysis skills are essential.Experienced collecting and managing data with Fulcrum software or similar mobile data collection platforms that allow users to create custom forms, collect field data via mobile devices, and manage or export that data for use in GIS, asset management, and other applications.Experience working on highly dynamic construction sites and on vessels in marine infrastructure environments.Native English speaker or equivalent proficiency, with strong public speaking abilities.Must be willing to remain available by phone outside of regular working hours.Must be willing to perform night shifts, as needed.Job DutiesPlanning, organizing, coordinating, developing and evaluation of marine mammal mitigation programs and activities.Developing, implementing and advising on policies, standards and procedures for marine mammal mitigation during anthropogenic noise-producing works in marine environments.Assignment and review of monitoring tasks and procedures for project mitigation teams.Conferring and collaborating with marine mammal experts, qualified environmental professionals, project managers and engineers, provincial, First Nations and federal regulators, to plan and review projects requiring marine mammal mitigation.Developing client relationships to communicate proposals, present monitoring results, establish specifications, discuss project status and office advice and recommendations for project regulatory compliance.Compiling and contributing to operational reports to present results of monitoring and to review project activities in relation to marine mammal impacts.Assisting in recruitment through talent acquisition and interviewing of potential candidates alongside project managers.Creating and delivering extensive project specific training and overseeing development and maintenance of staff competence in marine mammal mitigation and associated tasks.Participation in the design and development of marine mammal mitigation standard operational procedures.Collecting and managing data with Fulcrum software or similar mobile data collection platforms that allows users to create custom forms, collect field data via mobile devices, and manage or export that data for use in GIS, asset management, and other applications.PREFERENCE GIVEN TOPriority placement will be given to (1) Squamish Nation members and (2) Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record and (3) Canadian citizens/permanent residents.COMPENSATION: $56/hourBenefits$500 annual cell phone allowance.Fly-in-Fly-Out through Vancouver International Airport – flight reimbursement round trip up to $1,000 CAD.Meals per diem for travel days – a flat $75 CAD per round trip travel to cover meal costs for flying in and out of the job site.Vancouver Shuttle per diem for traveling to/from job site by boat between Brigermans Marine Terminal or Horseshoe Bay – $350 CAD per diem per round trip ($175 each way).Squamish-based workers traveling to site daily should claim 1 hour for each round trip (or 0.5 hour for one direction).How To ApplyPlease email your cover letter and resume to - , along with at least two professional references, proof of the required certifications, and a sample field report you have previously prepared.Please mention you saw this at.
