Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking an experienced
Environmental Manager
to lead environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability initiatives across complex construction and engineering projects. The Environmental Manager will work closely with project leadership, field teams, regulatory agencies, and clients to ensure Kiewit meets or exceeds all environmental requirements while supporting safe, efficient project execution.
This role is ideal for a proactive problem solver with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and guide teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
District Overview
Kiewit's Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, marine, and water resources. Our teams build projects across Western Canada and the USA, so a passion for travel and adventure is a must-have. This position will support the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, BC. Rotational travel is required.

Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Oversight
- Implement and manage project-specific Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and monitoring activities to verify compliance.
- Lead incident investigations related to spills, releases, or non-compliance events and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Permitting & Regulatory Coordination
- Identify required environmental permits and coordinate the preparation and submission of permit applications.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies and support negotiations, reporting, and site visits.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
Field Support & Training
- Provide on-site environmental guidance to project and subcontractor teams.
- Develop and deliver training on environmental procedures, best practices, and compliance obligations.
- Support construction planning with environmental constraints, mitigation strategies, and work sequencing recommendations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain documentation including permits, inspection logs, monitoring reports, and corrective action records.
- Track compliance metrics and report environmental performance to project and corporate leadership.
- Participate in client meetings and provide environmental updates as required.
Sustainability & Stewardship
- Identify opportunities for waste reduction, resource efficiency, and environmental innovation.
- Promote Kiewit's environmental stewardship values across project teams.
- Support environmental risk assessments and sustainability initiatives during project pursuit and planning phases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or a related field with ability to act as a QEP.
- 7+ years of environmental management experience in construction, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
- Solid understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, waste, hazardous materials, wildlife, wetlands).
- Experience with regulatory agencies and environmental permitting processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach field teams and influence decision-making.
- Willingness to travel and work on project sites as needed.

Base Compensation: $110,000/yr - $140,000/yr
- Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location
