The Adult Recreation Therapy Centre is a not-for-profit community support service located in Brantford and Brant County. The ARTC Adult Day Program provides therapeutic and recreational programs and services of interest to meet the needs of older adults and adults with morbidities, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, frail, isolated, early stages of cognitive impairment and other chronic conditions associated with aging.

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Full-Time/18-Month Contract Senior Recreation Therapy Lead (37.5 hrs./wk.) to join our team at our Brantford and Brant County (Paris) location. As a Senior Recreation Therapy Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services within the Adult Day Program. You will supervise and mentor Recreation Therapists, ensuring compliance with standards, and work closely with the Director of Operations. You will oversee ARTC's County Adult Day Program, including client intake assessments and scheduling. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise, mentor and assist Recreation Therapy staff in designing, implementing and evaluating programs to meet the needs of clients attending.

  • Oversee the organization of special events, delegating roles and responsibilities to staff assisting.

  • Oversee ARTC's County Day Program, including client intake and scheduling, program planning, calendar development, and direct programming for clients.

  • Format, finalize, and disburse monthly calendars, newsletters, flyers, and social media posts.

  • Update daily/weekly schedules for staff and clients attending

  • Promote ARTC within the community, leading ARTC's social media pursuits and marketing initiatives to the community.

  • Orientate and train new day program staff, providing supervision, support, guidance, and evaluation.

  • Complete appropriate documentation, including new client intake and updates, attendance, and participation.

  • Awareness of available resources for staff and clients attending.

  • Collaborate with leadership and other partners to ensure needs of clients and caregivers are met, serving as a point-of-contact for families attending.

  • Effectively communicate with all staff, utilizing resources available.

  • Actively participate in meetings and local networks, advocating and promoting the importance of Day Program in the community.

-Participate as an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines, equipment and material use.

  • Additional duties as delegated.

Regular staff working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:00pm, plus some weekend and evening availability. ARTC's County Program runs Tuesday & Thursday 8:30am-4:00pm in Paris, ON.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy or related field

  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques, and evidence-based practices.

  • Experience and knowledge working with older adults and adults with morbidities.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and understanding of various medical conditions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, clients, and families.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police Screening

  • Current First Aid/CPR certified

  • Computer Skills, including Microsoft Office Apps, Activity Pro, Zoom, EMHware (an asset)
