The Adult Recreation Therapy Centre is a not-for profit community support service located in Brantford and Brant County. The ARTC Adult Day Program provides therapeutic and recreational programs and services of interest to meet the needs of older adults and adults with morbidities, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, frail, isolated, early stages of cognitive impairment and other progressive chronic conditions associated with aging.
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Recreation Therapy Assistant to join our team for an eight week full-time summer contract, supported by Canada Summer Jobs. As a Recreation Therapy Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting with researching, planning, and implementing therapeutic, recreational activities and programs for clients attending the day program. Responsibilities include:

- Assist in developing and implementing therapeutic recreational programs of client interest to promote physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being..
- Document progress and maintain accurate records of each individual's participation and attendance.
- Collaborate with staff, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
- Reporting statistics and progress on client attendance and participation ongoing.
- Additional Duties as delegated.
- Regular working hours include Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm (7hrs/day, 5 days/wk.)
- Duration of contract: 8 weeks total

Qualifications:

- 18-30 years of age
- Current enrollment in Recreation Therapy or related field (Degree/Diploma an asset)
- Experience and knowledge working with older adults and adults with morbidities
- Familiarity with medical terminology and understanding of various medical conditions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Screening
- Current First Aid/CPR certified
- Computer Skills, including Microsoft Office Apps, Activity Pro, Zoom, EMHware (an assset)
- Leadership skills, strong organizational and time management skills
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess situations and prioritize work

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks

Pay: $18.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
