We currently offer professional programs in four areas: Social Responsibility & Sustainability, Interfaith Dialogue, Catholic Leadership, and Ontario certified teacher qualifications as well as a number of general interest courses in areas relevant to the academic and intellectual traditions of our institution, including Celtic studies, book arts and printmaking, poetry and creative expression, faith formation, and spirituality and sociology, and language and arts.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate instructor to teach the SMCE3004 S25 Introduction to Catholic Social Teaching course in our Interfaith Dialogue Diploma program during the Spring/Summer 2026 semester. Each course in the Diploma is to reinforce principles of interfaith dialogue and communication.
Course Overview
This foundational course introduces learners to the key principles of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and their relevance to today's most pressing moral, social, and ecological challenges. Through guided readings, discussion, and reflection, participants will explore central themes such as human dignity, the common good, solidarity, subsidiarity, and care for creation. Emphasizing practical application, the course connects Catholic social thought with real-world contexts—from economic justice to environmental stewardship—equipping learners to integrate CST into professional, community, and personal decision-making.

- Critically Reflect on Personal and Social Impacts of Religion
- Apply Interfaith Perspectives to Social Action
- Identify the key principles, encyclicals, and papal teachings that form the foundation of Catholic Social Teaching.
- Recall major historical moments and figures (e.g., Rerum Novarum, Laudato Si', Fratelli Tutti) that shaped modern CST.
- Describe key scriptural or doctrinal references from Catholicism that support principles of peace, hospitality, or mutual respect.
- Formulate a set of actions that you can pragmatically do in your life to advance interfaith understanding and collaboration.
The course will be scheduled on a weekday evening from 6:30pm –8:30pm online for six consecutive weeks in the Spring/Summer term (May to August, Efforts will be made to accommodate the instructor's own schedule.
Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in religious studies, theology, interfaith studies, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Experience teaching courses related to religious diversity, interfaith dialogue, or multiculturalism.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive environments and promoting social justice.
- Successful experience teaching online.
- Educational background that includes the study of comparative theology, interfaith dialogue, or similar topics
- Experience teaching Interfaith Dialogue in the North American context.
Brief Description of Duties:
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures and interactive sessions that explore different models for understanding religious diversity
- Incorporate Diploma- and Course-Level Learning Objectives set by the Division of Continuing Education
- Incorporate opportunities to strengthen skills in dialogue and communication through assignments, activities and lecture content
- Facilitate discussions and activities that encourage critical reflection on lived examples of interreligious dialogue and collaboration.
- Provide guidance and support to students as they cultivate greater personal openness to, and skills for, interreligious engagement.
- Assess student learning through a final reflection or assignment.
