Vice Principal

Position Title: Vice Principal (VP)

Reports to: Principal

Working Relationship: Principal, Administrator, Parents, Students

Status: Full-time- yearly contract

Scope of Responsibilities

The vice Principal, under the direction of and as assigned by the Principal, and in the place of the Principal when absent, is responsible for the total operation of the local school program and facility, including the responsibility to implement and facilitate the educational objectives of MAC's Islamic Schools. Vice Principals assist with supervision, management, evaluation, administration and planning for instructional programs, extracurricular activities, school personnel and school building operation. The diversity of the duties listed herein indicate that the tasks performed by vice Principals are both complex and demanding. While receiving little supervision, the vice Principal supervises students, certified and classified personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

The vice principal will provide instructional leadership and emulate the Islamic values of the

institution at all times while carrying out the following responsibilities:

• Coordinates and supervises the instructional program at direction of Principal.
• Assists in establishing an optimal learning environment within the school.
• Assists with the development of a functioning education philosophy consistent with the

values of the community, teachers, school administration, and the School Board.

• Supervises discipline and attendance procedures.
• Supervises and evaluates the school program; assists with job performance evaluations

as assigned.

• Encourages the professional growth of teachers by advanced training, experimentation,

and evaluation.

• Assists with the administration of the school budget.
• Assists in maintaining school records and filing necessary reports.
• Assists in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of the various

governmental agencies.

• Directs the operation and maintenance of the building.
• Performs responsibilities in continuous planning, program budget and evaluation of

school program to include curriculum development and instruction.

• Assists with planning and organizing the school day and year to provide for efficient

operation of the school.

• Administers extra-curricular activities.
• Maintains positive public relations/communications.
• Assists with the development of an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm

within the school.

• Delegates duties for effective staff utilization.7
• Works cooperatively with staff, teachers, and the administration in sharing ideas,

techniques, and procedures for improvement of the learning environment.

• Establishes and maintains strong relationships with all stakeholders, emulating strong

Islamic principles in all interactions and decisions

• Coordinates transportation.
• Assists with the selection and assignment of certificated and classified personnel.
• Keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
• Implements security and safety measures as assigned.
• Conducts inventories and surveys.
• Performs all administrative duties in the absence of the Principal.
• Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education
• Three (3) years successful teaching experience in Ontario

Desirable Qualification

• Five (5) years successful teaching experience
• Teaching experience in an Islamic school in North America
• Experience with/knowledge of current elementary/secondary school program(s) and

procedures.

• Administrative experience in an Islamic school.
