We are seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as Vice Principal, Student Success, a key member of the Middle School Leadership Team dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Role Overview

The Vice Principal, Student Success plays a central role in shaping the culture and daily experience of the Middle School. Acting as an extension of the Principal and in alignment with HSC's mission, vision, and strategic priorities, the VP provides strategic and operational leadership that supports strong student outcomes, high standards of conduct, and a deeply connected community.

As a connector between students, staff, families, and the broader HSC community, the VP champions student wellbeing, equitable practices, and collaborative problem-solving. The ideal candidate is a visible, engaged, and empathetic leader who models HSC's ideals of integrity, respect, community, determination, and individuality.

Key Responsibilities

School Culture & Behaviour

  • Lead the Social, Emotional, Learning (SEL)-informed response-to-behaviour process across Grades 5–8.
  • Manage Code of Conduct and behaviour expectation infractions consistently, fairly, and in a timely manner; maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safe Schools Act and related legislation.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to establish and communicate clear and developmentally appropriate behavioural expectations.
  • Partner with faculty to implement SEL-based interventions for academic, behavioural, and compliance-related challenges.
  • Maintain high visibility throughout the day to foster safety, belonging, and positive student deportment.
  • Provide leadership in character education alongside the VP, School Life and Grade Level Leaders.

Student Success

  • Lead, coordinate, and guide the Grade 5–8 Student Success Team, including facilitating Learning Services Team meetings.
  • Partner with the VP, Academic Administration (Grades 5–12) to lead academic data collection, analysis, and implementation (Acadience, MAP, Report Cards).
  • Support Grade Level Leaders in monthly intervention meetings; ensure documentation and next steps are completed.
  • Oversee student Academic and Behavioural Agreements and maintain proactive communication with teachers and families.
  • Ensure effective implementation of attendance policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and communicate Return-to-Learn stages of the concussion management protocol.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to support major Middle School events such as:

  • Closing ceremonies

  • New Student and New Parent Orientation
  • Oversee student transitions, including:

  • Grade 4/M9 Grade 5

  • Grade 8 Grade 9
  • Class placement processes
  • Serve as the first point of contact for Learning Services, School Counsellors, and Health Services in student support matters.
  • Liaise with Human Resources to support onboarding and integration of supply teachers.
  • Manage operational tasks including locker assignments and communication of maintenance needs in collaboration with Facilities.

Community & Committee Engagement

  • Active member of:

  • Middle School Leadership Team

  • Middle School SEL Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with school committees and external partners to implement programs supporting social-emotional and academic development.
  • Support community-building initiatives and cultivate strong relationships with students, colleagues, and families.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of relevant teaching or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience; Principal Qualifications or equivalent (e.g., M.Ed., CAIS Leadership Diploma).
  • Strong grounding in student wellbeing, SEL-informed practices, and restorative approaches.
  • Proven alignment with HSC's Ideals: Integrity, Respect, Community, Determination, Individuality.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a diverse and dynamic school community.

Compensation & Time Commitment

  • 60% release time in recognition of the leadership and administrative responsibilities.
  • Administrative salary stipend accompanies the role.
  • Works the academic calendar plus:

  • One additional week before faculty arrive, and

  • One additional week after faculty depart.
  • Some summer availability may be required.
  • The position is renewable. Incumbents are invited to apply at the end of their term when it is reposted.
