Role Overview

**This role may be based in Mississauga, ON or in Montreal, QC**

As an Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity and transparency of our organization. You will be responsible for managing and recording financial transactions, preparing insightful financial statements, and ensuring compliance with taxation regulations, including timely HST/QST filings. Collaborating closely with various departments, you will analyze financial data, reconcile discrepancies, and provide valuable insights to support informed decision-making. Key Accountabilities

Financial Reporting

  • Record and manage financial transactions accurately on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements
  • Collaborate with different departments to ensure financial processes are maintained
  • Provide insights and support decision-making through financial data analysis
  • Prepare intercompany journal entries for Seaport Group
  • Perform reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Stay updated on accounting standards and regulatory changes
  • Communicate financial information to stakeholders effectively
  • Review accounts payable entries to ensure accuracy

Taxation and Audit

  • File HST/QST returns
  • Assist with T4A information gathering
  • Assist with year-end audit
  • Communicate with CRA and revenue Quebec to solve any issues

About You

  • You possess exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness in financial reporting and analysis.
  • You approach tasks with persistence and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency, consistently meeting tight deadlines and effectively prioritizing workload.
  • You are a proactive and confident self-starter who excels in problem-solving and is comfortable working independently in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • You thrive in changing environments, demonstrating adaptability, initiative, and enthusiasm when handling new challenges and responsibilities.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can effectively collaborate across departments, clearly articulating financial information and insights to various stakeholders.
  • You have a keen interest in continuous professional growth and stay informed of updates to accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Actively pursuing or interested in obtaining a CPA designation.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience, including experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory filings.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with proven skills in financial analysis, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and other data management functions.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and taxation requirements, specifically HST/QST.
  • Experience with NetSuite considered an asset.
