Location - This role is hybrid, with a mix of remote and in-person work. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Manager of the University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre (UASAC), the Education Program Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the university's commitment to creating a safe and supportive campus. This position is accountable for delivering high-impact, trauma-informed educational programming that supports student engagement, student retention, and wellness

  • The Education Program Coordinator oversees the planning, development, and facilitation of UASAC's anti-sexual violence education initiatives. This includes:
  • Designing and delivering multi-modal educational content, including long-form online courses and interactive, in-person workshops tailored to diverse campus audiences.
  • Facilitating sessions that explore complex and sensitive topics in a manner that is inclusive, evidence-informed, and responsive to the needs of participants.
  • Consulting with campus partners on the prevention of sexual and relationship violence and supporting compliance with the University's Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy.

In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, the Education Program Coordinator supports and mentors a team of student Education Volunteers, fostering student leadership and social responsibility. Responsibilities include assisting with recruitment, interviewing, training, and coaching volunteers, and maintaining procedural documentation to support the ongoing success of the Education Volunteer Program.

This role requires strong facilitation skills, deep subject-matter knowledge, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and survivor-centred practices.

Education Program Development & Implementation:

  • Key functions include strategic design, implementation, and evaluation of anti-sexual violence educational initiatives for the entire University community, responsible for developing and facilitating high-impact presentations and online courses in compliance with University policies (e.g., Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy), conducting program assessment, and supporting the Volunteer Coordinator with the Education Volunteers in recruitment and mentorship.

Communications:

  • This role serves as the central point for outreach and communication, engaging community stakeholders to raise awareness and increase participation in educational offerings. It includes creating educational resources that inform clients and community members about sexual violence prevention, its impact, and response strategies. Furthermore, the role involves acting as a key consultant and subject-matter expert on both the UASAC's and the central University's communications initiatives, ensuring expertise is applied across relevant internal and external working groups and committees.

Supporting the Education Volunteer Program:

  • This role is accountable for the effective delivery of peer-facilitated anti-sexual violence education by supporting the Volunteer Coordinator in recruitment and mentoring Education Volunteers. Key responsibilities include continuous individualized and group support, providing essential emotional support and mentorship related to sensitive topics, and supporting volunteers in ensuring compliance with all UASAC and University policies. The role also involves supporting the strategic development of volunteer recognition and retention initiatives, maintaining accurate records, and conducting program assessment and evaluation to drive continuous improvement in volunteer management systems.

Provision of Crisis Intervention Support (portion of):

  • This function involves providing specialized, trauma-informed crisis intervention support to individuals who disclose or reach out during educational presentations. Key responsibilities include making independent and critical judgments regarding safety, risk of harm, and measured resource allocation and referrals. The role requires continuous consultation with the UASAC Drop-In Counsellor and maintains a thorough, working knowledge of critical University disciplinary policies (e.g., Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy) to ensure all support and referral decisions are policy-compliant and appropriately escalated.

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field and completion of a comprehensive sexual violence crisis intervention support training program are required; consideration may also be given to other combinations of education and experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of anti-sexual violence advocacy, sexual and gender-based violence response and prevention, facilitation, crisis intervention support, and suicide intervention.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including but not limited to individuals who are 2SLGBTQIA+, racialized, experiencing disabilities, and/or navigating other intersections of socially marginalized identities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in adult education and curriculum design, and experience creating and implementing effective online educational materials, are assets.
  • Ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex situations and use appropriate judgment.
  • High level of critical thinking, analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to deal with diverse issues, multitask, and prioritize.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting a team of volunteers.
  • Program planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with individuals of various backgrounds and experiences, including administrators, faculty, professionals, students, and community members.
  • Strong knowledge of University environment and student life, including relevant policies and procedures (e.g. the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy and Procedure; the Discrimination, Harassment, and Duty to Accommodation Policy and Procedures; the Helping Individuals at Risk Policy and Procedure; the Student Conduct Policy; staff and faculty collective agreements; POPA and ATIA; etc.).
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of resources on campus and in the community.
  • Practical written and verbal communication skills, including formal facilitation experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate sensitive material.
