Position Summary

We are seeking a Mill and Maintenance Lead. This person is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the feed mill and related equipment to ensure efficient and consistent feed production. This role also oversees general feedlot maintenance, ensuring equipment, infrastructure, and facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and capable of leading a small team while working hands-on when required.

Key ResponsibilitiesFeed Mill Operations

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain feed mill equipment, including rollers, mixers, conveyors, augers, and boilers.
  • Oversee grain processing and steam flaking, ensuring optimal feed quality and consistency.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and repair costs.
  • Monitor inventory levels of grain, supplements, and mill supplies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with feed safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Feedlot Maintenance

  • Oversee and perform maintenance and repairs on feedlot infrastructure, including fences, gates, bunks, water systems, roads, and buildings.
  • Assist with upkeep of heavy equipment, loaders, tractors, and other machinery used in day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and schedules for all equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Heavy Duty Mechanic to ensure all equipment, vehicles, and related inventory are properly maintained. This includes setting maintenance priorities, coordinating schedules, sharing information on repairs, and managing parts and supply needs efficiently.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in feed mill operations, maintenance, or a related agricultural/mechanical field.
  • Strong mechanical ability with experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • Knowledge of steam flaking systems, and automated feed systems an asset.
  • Familiarity with Alberta feedlot operations and animal nutrition principles is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, permanent position; hours may vary depending on operational needs.
  • On-call availability for emergencies and breakdowns is required.
  • Work environment includes exposure to dust, noise, hot steam, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks as needed.
