The role of the Parks Lead Hand is to carry out and implement the maintenance standards, programs and plans established by the Recreation & Parks Foreman. In the Foreman’s absence the Parks Lead Hand will assume their duties as it pertains to Parks. This position also carries out maintenance duties for all existing parks, and pathways associated within the Town. Shift work is a requirement of this position.

**COMPENSATION**
- 2025 wage range: $32.83 / hour to $35.88 / hour
- $3/hour shift premium for evenings and weekends
- 100% employer paid health and dental benefit premiums (excluding LTD) after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period
- $1000 annual health spending account
- Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2026
- Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2027

**TERM**
- This is a temporary position, with an expected Term of (2)-years.

**JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Maintain the town's parks and pathways to the highest standard including irrigation, turf maintenance, weed control and pathway maintenance.
- Lead operators and summer students to complete grass cutting, weed whipping, and spraying.
- Perform general maintenance on equipment and park amenities.
- Oversee irrigation timers and systems and troubleshoot for errors within the systems and repair them.
- Assist with Communities in Bloom Initiative.
- Perform other duties as required.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Minimum three years’ experience in a similar setting.
- Level 2 Parks and Sportsfields Operating Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Heavy Machinery experience (backhoe, trencher).
- AARFP Leadership Skills course.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Pesticide Applicator License
- Knowledge with standard business software (Microsoft Office).
- Combination of education and experience will be considered.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Subject to working in outdoor environment - heat, cold, icy, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees, and wildlife.
- Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking.
- Use and operation of a variety of vehicles including but not limited to ½ ton trucks, lawn mowers, skid steers, trenchers, toolcats, and Zamboni.
- Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required.
- Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be required.

- Ensure all operations are performed in a safe manner and in accordance with the Town of Coaldale policies, as well as the law as set forth by Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times as per safe job procedures.
