The role of the Public Works Lead Hand is to assist in the implementation of maintenance standards, programs and plans established by the Public Works Foreman. In the Public Works’ absence the Public Works Lead Hand will assume his/her duties. This position also operates, maintains, and repairs equipment for the Town.

**COMPENSATION**
- 2025 wage range: $32.83 / hour to $35.88 / hour
- $3/hour shift premium for evenings and weekends
- 100% employer paid health and dental benefit premiums (excluding LTD) after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period

- Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2026
- Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2027

**TERM**
- This is a temporary position, with an expected Term of (2)-years.

**JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Assist the Public Works Foreman in scheduling work and equipment maintenance/repair.
- Be available for on call rotation as needed.
- Order and sign invoices for required inventory and supplies.
- Operate and maintain all equipment used by the Town pertaining to the maintenance of roads, sidewalks, storm sewer, street drainage, curb and gutter, cemetery operations as well as associated construction activities.
- Maintain and replace road signs.
- Assist in water and sewer operations.
- Complete daily time log of activities.
- Perform other duties as required.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Post-secondary diploma in a related field; combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum three years’ experience in a similar setting.
- Class 3 driver’s license with Q endorsement.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Knowledge with standard business software (Microsoft Office, Bellamy).
- Heavy Equipment Operator’s License is an asset.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Subject to working in outdoor environment - heat, cold, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees and wildlife.
- Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking.
- Use and operation of a variety of vehicles including: trucks, graders, loaders.
- Safe operation and use of vehicles.
- Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required.
- Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be required.
- May be required to perform on call duties as required.

- Ensure all operations are performed in a safe manner and in accordance with the Town of Coaldale policies, as well as the law as set forth by Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times as per safe job procedures.
- Specific to Role: Require or be willing to obtain Ground Disturbance Certification, Confined Space Certification, and Flag Person/Traffic Control Certification.
