The Role:

The Write Direction is expanding its search and digital marketing capabilities to support both client-facing services and internal growth initiatives. We are seeking a Freelance Search Specialist (SEO, SEM & AI Search/GEO) who can lead search strategy end-to-end, including balancing technical SEO, content optimization, paid search campaigns and experimentation with AI-powered discovery channels.

Responsibilities:

We are strengthening our internal organic search presence while expanding our SEO, SEM, and paid social marketing services for clients. In this role, key responsibilities include:

  • Technical SEO & On-Page Optimization: Complete technical site audits; optimize metadata, schema markup, and website performance enhancements. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for minor site optimizations.
  • Backlink Building & Authority Development: Plan and execute ethical, high-quality link-building and outreach strategies; develop internal linking structures; perform competitor and backlink profile analysis; and execute digital PR + brand mentions + authority building partnerships
  • Content Optimization & Strategy: Lead keyword research, search intent analysis, content optimization, and topic clustering. Familiarity with evolving AI Technologies in the SEO & SEM field is a plus.
  • SEO Analytics & Performance Tracking: Highly skilled in using tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, and SEMrush and other monthly reporting dashboards to track and improve rankings. Translate data into actionable insights and continuous optimization plans.
  • AI Search & Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): Monitor evolving AI-driven and generative search trends and apply insights to improve visibility, discoverability, and content performance across emerging search platforms.
  • Search Engine Marketing (SEM) & Paid Social: Plan, execute, and optimize paid search including Google Ads account structure, bidding strategies, ad testing, and performance optimization (experience with PPC is a strong asset but not mandatory). Also able to conduct paid social campaigns across Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn.

Qualifications:

We are seeking highly skilled SEO professionals with experience in:

1. Technical SEO & Website Optimization

  • Proficiency in optimizing site structure, crawlability, and indexing for search engines
  • Familiarity with schema markup, Core Web Vitals, and page speed improvements
  • Strong knowledge of Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, and Ahrefs for audits

2. Backlink Acquisition & Outreach Strategy

  • Proven experience in developing white-hat backlinking strategies
  • Familiarity with competitor backlink analysis and outreach best practices
  • Ability to build high-quality guest posting, digital PR platforms (HARO/Featured/Qwoted, etc.), and PR-based link-building

3. Content & Keyword Strategy

  • Experience with SEO-driven content creation, ensuring content ranks well organically
  • Strong ability to conduct keyword research and implement topic clustering
  • Ability to collaborate with content teams to align with SEO best practices

4. Paid Search & Performance Marketing

  • Ability to track and interpret key SEO metrics (CTR, impressions, keyword rankings, domain authority, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics 4, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, or Data Studio for dashboards
  • Experience in SEO forecasting, analyzing performance insights and client reporting

5. SEO Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Bonus if candidate has expertise in Google Ads (PPC), retargeting, and social media paid strategies
  • Build, manage, and optimize paid campaigns (using Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager) with a focus on lead generation and ROI
  • Understanding of Quality Score optimization, ad copy testing, and conversion tracking
  • Familiarity with budget allocation strategies and campaign scaling

Additional Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field is preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in SEO, SEM, digital marketing, and paid social marketing
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to project or business needs
  • Strong communication skills for client collaboration and possible SEO/SEM strategy presentations
  • Experience working with WordPress and content management systems
  • Interest in digital marketing, technology, and continuous learning
  • Experience working with B2B clients is an asset
